In Short
  • The first few months following Borderlands 4's release will be packed with paid and free content releases.
  • Shortly after the title's launch, players can look forward to the Horror of Kairos event, and the game's first Invincible boss.
  • BL4's first story DLC will arrive sometime in Q1 2026.

Borderlands games are known to provide value in spades, and Borderlands 4 will be no different. Every title in the franchise features a beefy campaign supplemented by plenty of side content, with all manner of farming opportunities topping off the full package. This alone makes up at least 60+ hours of content, and then there are all the post-launch additions. From new story expansions to seasonal events, Borderlands 4 is all set to have them all. So, if you’re wondering what the game’s post-release schedule looks like, here’s a look at the Borderlands 4 content roadmap.

  • Free Content Release 1
    • Horror of Kairos (Seasonal Mini-Event)
    • New Cosmetics
    • New Legendary Weapons

The first four months of BL4 are packed, to say the least. The post-release frenzy kicks off a Halloween-themed event in Horror of Kairos, bringing new cosmetics and legendary weapons for free. After this, a dose of paid content will join the game, adding new missions and bosses for Deluxe and Super Deluxe Editions. Bounty Pack 1 will likely be available as a separate purchase, so Standard Edition owners can also partake in the new content if they wish.

To cap off 2025, the first Invincible Boss will land in Kairos, fleshing out the endgame content on offer. This returning feature will be free for all players.

Q1 2026 is all about paid content, starting with the second Bounty Pack that adds more missions, bosses, and legendary gear. The focus then shifted towards Borderlands 4’s first story DLC, titled ‘Mad Ellie & The Vault of the Damned.” We know little about the DLC (apart from Ellie’s presence, of course), although the devs have stated that it will have a darker theme complemented by more blood and gore than what you’d expect from the franchise.

Being a full-blooded story expansion, you can look forward to a new map zone to explore, fresh bosses to take down, and plenty of shiny legendaries to get your hands on. As is typically the case, the story pack will be available separately, but if you want to grab the Season Pass, be sure to check out our guide on all of Borderlands 4’s editions.

Borderlands 4 Roadmap – Beyond Q1 2026

  • Bounty Packs 3 + 4
  • Story Pack 2

  • And More

Details on what’s coming in Q2 2026 and beyond are less concrete at the moment, but we’re sure to learn more about them after the release of the first story DLC. It’s important to remember that we’ll also be getting new challenges and missions every week, meaning you’ll have plenty of reasons to revisit the game and continue farming.

And that wraps up our guide on the Borderlands 4 content roadmap. We’ll be updating this page whenever new information is revealed, so be sure to revisit. Also, let us know if you’ve pre-ordered the game in the comments below.
