10 Best Greatsword in Elden Ring

With hundreds of weapons to choose from, Elden Ring is one RPG game that caters to everyone’s playstyle. Besides the best Elden Ring staffs and even daggers, a fan favorite is Elden Ring Greatswords for their value to a strength build. However, with so many greatswords in the game, picking the right one is next to impossible. If you’re someone in the Lands Between and looking for the best Elden Ring greatsword, bear with me as I tell you all about it.

1. Blasphemous Blade

Blasphemous Blade Greatsword in Elden Ring

Equip Requirement: 22 Strength, 15 Dexterity, and 21 Faith

My first pick for the Greatsword list in Elden Ring is one you receive after exploring the world a fair amount. Blasphemous Blade is the weapon you get by defeating Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy, an optional boss. He is situated at Volcano Manor.

The reason I picked this for this list is simple. This Elden Ring greatsword packs Taker’s Flame a perk extremely useful in various situations. While it does 30 FP, it heals you at 10% of maximum HP and provides 150 flat HP on hit. And the weapon skill burns enemies. I think you can already see why I would place this weapon at the top of the best Elden Ring greatswords.

2. Darkmoon Greatsword

Dark Moon Greatsword

Equip Requirement: 16 Strength, 11 Dexterity, 38 Intelligence

It is a tradition for every From Software game to have a Moonlight Greatsword in some form. And Elden Ring is no different, providing players with one of the best intelligence-based weapons in-game. Getting a Darkmoon Greatsword requires a lot of work. You must find Ranni by finishing the Caria Manor boss Loretta and meeting her at Ranni’s Rise. Then, you defeat General Radahn at Caelid to access the underground area and progress through the next steps.

Putting that work for Darkmoon Greatsword is worth the time in Elden Ring. The magic slashes from this weapon hit hard and even give you the added advantage of dealing physical and magic damage. So the next time you go out on an excursion, check this Elden Ring greatsword out.

3. Banished Knight Greatsword

Banished Knight's Greatsword

Equip Requirement: 17 Strength, 9 Dexterity

If you keep killing the various Banished knights you encounter in Elden Ring, you can find one of the better weapons in-game called Banished Greatsword. It is only dropped from the Banished Knights who carry it. However, it is one of the best starter greatswords in Elden Ring.

Banished Knight’s Greatsword is perfect for those early-game strength grinds. This weapon deals great damage, scales well until the late game, and is a well-rounded weapon to consider using. I’ve used it up until mid-game before switching to a dexterity build using a Larval Tear. However, until you do get there, try this Elden Ring greatsword out!

4. Ordovis’s Greatsword

Ordovis Greatsword Elden Ring

Equip Requirement: 25 Strength, 13 Dexterity, 15 Faith

When you reach Leyndell for the first time, you can find yourself in a dungeon right at the bottom of the castle walls in the Elden Ring. This dungeon houses two Crucible Knights, and defeating them gives you one of the best faith swords in-game, The Ordovis’s Greatsword.

The reason why I added it to this list is because of its attack rating among infused greatswords. Ordovis’s Greatsword deals 25% holy damage. Furthermore, Ordovis’s Vortex damages a lot when used, making it a preferred boss weapon. So, consider using this one if you are fighting a boss that takes holy damage and struggles to kill them with other Greatswords.

5. Claymore

Claymore Elden Ring

Equip Requirement: 16 Strength, 13 Dexterity

A lot of people rate this weapon quite low in most cases. However, I prefer putting Claymore right there with the best Elden Ring greatswords, and for good reason! You can get this Elden Ring weapon from a chest in Castle Morne. The chest is pretty hard to miss, as it is inside a room beside where a few Misbegotten huddles together.

As I said, Claymore is a highly versatile weapon in the world of Elden Ring. It doesn’t have huge usage requirements, gives you access to Lion’s Claw fairly early, and the R2 attack has good reach. Overall, it is a solid weapon to use if you solely focus on the single-player experience. Because when it comes to PvP, this is pretty bland.

6. Knight’s Greatsword

Knight's Greatsword in Elden Ring

Equip Requirement: 16 Strength, 12 Dexterity

Another great alternative to the Banished Knight’s Greatsword is your standard Knight’s Greatsword. Getting this is simpler than getting it from Banished Knight because you’ll get it quickly from most of your journey from the beginning hour. Be it in Limgrave or Liurnia of the Lakes, you can get it by just progressing through the game.

As for actual performance, it is a standard weapon that scales with strength and dexterity. However, unlike Banished Knight’s Greatsword, you’ll require some more points in Dexterity to use the weapon. However, once you have the required stats, you have an excellent weapon to run until you find a better Greatsword.

7. Sword of Milos

Sword of Milos in Elden Ring

Equip Requirement: 15 Strength, 19 Dexterity

If there’s one thing I’ve noticed while playing Elden Ring, it’s this: Acquiring some weapons is a journey in itself. One such weapon you acquire quite late in the game is the Sword of Milos, one of the great swords that looks like it belongs in an edgy death metal song. To get it, you have to complete the Dung Eater subquest. And once you’ve done it, you’ll fight him in the moat outside the capital with this greatsword as a prize.

The Sword of Milos is a great weapon with solid build scaling. You should try to get this weapon if you are running a Strength and Agility build. Of course, that is if you are willing to go through the entire Dung Eater quest experience. Outside of scaling, it does 100% physical damage, builds up bleed on hit, and restores 5 FP per kill. You’ll find it more beneficial if you plan to play at NG+ quality.

8. Helphen’s Steeple

Helphen's Steepe

Equip Requirement: 19 Strength, 10 Dexterity, 22 Intelligence

Do you want to experience the unique magic weapons but don’t want to go through the hassle of grabbing Darkmoon Greatsword, Helphen’s Steeple is a good alternative. You can find this by killing a Tibia Mariner in the middle of the way between Castle Sol and Snow Valley Ruins. The best way to find the boss is at the graveyard outside Castle Sol.

Helphen’s Steeple might be inferior to the better magic greatswords like Darkmoon Greatsword. However, within level 35-40 Intelligence, this is the perfect magic-based weapon to consider using until you can find a better one to fit your playstyle. Outside of that, Helphen’s Steele deals good strength damage. So, if anything, you can use this Elden Ring greatsword for a good strength weapon.

9. Lordsworn’s Greatsword

Lordsworn's Greatsword

Equip Requirement: 16 Strength, 10 Dexterity

One of the lightest greatswords in the Elden Ring, Lordsworn’s Greatsword is the first actual greatsword you find in the Elden Ring. Stored inside a chest at Gatefront Ruins, Lordsworn’s Greatsword is one of those weapons that allows you to get the feel before you commit to building your stats.

Outside of that, it isn’t anything special. It has a high critical rating among Greatswords and a measly usage requirement. But it doesn’t scale much in mid to late-game. It also doesn’t gel well with infusions. So, it is only suitable for experiencing the Greatsword gameplay and making an informed decision.

10. Marais Executioner’s Sword

Marais Executioner's Greatsword

Equip Requirement: 24 Strength, 14 Dexterity, 23 Arcane

Quite possibly, one of the coolest bosses in Elden Ring exists at The Shaded Castle, located in Altus Plateau. Elmer of the Briar is a formidable boss who wields one of the magic greatswords in Elden Ring called Marais Executioner’s Sword. It also comes with Eochaid’s Dancing Blade, one of the best weapon skills in-game. This gives it the stopping power for any bosses or enemies in-game.

However, the downside of finding this weapon is its absurd usage requirement. For a Greatsword in Elden Ring, it is on the higher side. Furthermore, the Strength and Arcane requirement is absurd, as both the skills barely gel together. So, you have to build a character that can use this weapon.

These are best Elden Ring greatswords you should try out in the game. Depending on who you are as a player, these will fit different playstyles. Which Elden Ring greatswords do you prefer? Let us know in the comments below!
