Matt Reeve’s Arkham Asylum Spinoff Series Is Set in the New DCU: James Gunn

Matt Reeve's Arkham Asylum Spinoff Series is Set in The New DCU!
In Short
  • An Arkham Asylum series is in the works and is being produced by Matt Reeves.
  • James Gunn has confirmed that Arkham Asylum will be set in the DCU.
  • The Arkham Asylum Series does not have a release date yet.

In 2022, it was announced that The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, will have its very own cinematic universe. Following this claim, The Penguin series, following Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobbleplot, was announced to expand into the world of The Batman. Another news came to light talking about how Matt Reeves, the director behind The Batman (2022) and the upcoming Batman 2 is also working on an Arkham Asylum series. Not a lot of information was available about this spinoff at that time. However, now, James Gunn has confirmed that the Matt Reeves’ Arkham Asylum spinoff series will be set in the new DCU.

Earlier, the speculations for this series assumed that it might revolve around the inmates of Arkham Asylum along with The Riddler seen in The Batman and may have a possible appearance of Barry Keoghan’s Joker.

Recently, some DC fans took some questions to James Gunn via Threads. Gunn responded to these questions and confirmed that the Arkham Asylum Series will be a part of the DCU along with Superman: Legacy and Creature Commandos.

This simply means that a lot of new characters are coming our way. This also pretty much confirms the fact that the villains in Matt Reeve’s universe can make their way to DCU. Now, the other possibility is that we might see characters such as Poison Ivy or Mr. Freeze in this series. I highly doubt that they would bring in characters from The Batman Universe because that would break the boundary between DC Elseworld and the DCU.

However, there is not a lot of information available about this series so we can’t say anything for sure. The Arkham Asylum series does not have a release date yet but it will surely be after The Penguin’s release in 2024.
