In Short
  • Aglaea is killed by Caenis and the cleaners by being stabbed through her heart with a special knife that can kill Chrysos Heirs.
  • However, it was Aglaea's big plan to die on her own terms, boosting the Flame-Chasing journey through its last steps.

The storyline in the Trailblaze mission in Amphoreus increased the stakes with the last version by killing prominent characters, and it seems to continue with Honkai Star Rail 3.3. The first question I must address here is how Aglaea died in the story. This is important as Aglaea was more or so given the ‘Duke Ifrit Inferno‘ treatment by being killed off-screen. The last time we saw Aglaea was when she was confronted by Caenis and a couple of Cleaners in the story.

Note:

For those that don’t know about Cleaners, they are a group of assassins that oppose the Flame Chasing journey and have specifically targeted Chrysos Heirs throughout history. Caenis is the current leader of the cleaners, which she had kept hidden until this mission.

Now, most of you might be wondering how Aglaea was killed by Caenis and a bunch of ‘humans’ when she is considered the most ruthless Chrysos Heir and is a demigod on top of it. What happens is that Caenis threatens Aglaea by taking one of the deaf children of Okhema as hostage, threatening to blind the child or do other terrible things if Aglaea resists them.

So Aglaea gave in, and the cleaners stabbed Aglaea through her heart with one of the special knives from their faction that can kill Chrysos Heirs. However, one thing that probably doesn’t add up for you is that Aglaea could have still easily taken care of the intruders by herself while safeguarding her people.

She basically protected the entire Okhema with her golden threads, so something this simple would not have been a major threat to her. But, Aglaea had other plans.

Aglaea’s Plan to Boost the Flame Chasing Journey to the End

Aglaea knew her time was coming to an end soon, she had realized way earlier that her senses as a human were starting to dull. Surviving over a thousand years was taking its toll on her soul, even if her physical body remained unaffected. And on top of everything, she had already prophesied her death, like many of the other Chrysos Heirs.

So, instead of leaving matters up to fate, she chose the perfect moment to exit the world on her own terms. Even though she knew the plans Caenis was preparing in the shadows, Aglaea knowingly turned a blind eye to it to boost the Flame Chasing journey through its final stretch.

Aglaea knew that her death would force Phainon to become the leader they all expected him to be, and it had that exact effect. Her death at the hands of Caenis stirred up the people of Okhema, making them completely support the Flame Chasing Journey, while pushing Phainon to become the next leader.

Aglaea Died on Her Own Terms

With Aglaea deceased, Phainon received the much-needed push that switched him from a carefree funny guy to the envisioned Deliverer. Phainon finally started to lead the people of Okhema and planned out the final encounter with Aquilla, the Sky Titan.

Other than bringing in the much-needed change to Phainon, Aglaea also wanted to safeguard her powers to provide a last-ditch support to the flame chasing journey. So, before dying, Aglaea split her powers into a bracelet crafted by the Grand Craftsmen Chartonus and many of her nymphs. Her golden nymphs guided Cipher on her final journey, while her bracelet protected Phainon and the Trailblazer once the Sky Titan was defeated.

So, Aglaea remained the ultimate strategist in Honkai Star Rail, even after her death. She used everything in her arsenal to complete the Flame Chasing Journey, even weaponizing her own death for the cause. Tell us what you think about Aglaea’s grand strategy and whether you feel she could have done things a bit differently.
