Filming for the Minecraft sequel has just begun, and the cast is expanding with new additions like Kirsten Dunst. Only a few members of the A Minecraft Movie 2 cast have been officially announced so far, and let’s go over them one by one:

Jack Black as Steve

Jack Black snatched the role of Steve, the poster boy of the Minecraft franchise. He is confirmed to return to play the main character once again in the sequel. While Steve doesn’t have a backstory in the Minecraft game, the debut movie fleshed it out as a kid who ends up in the Overworld via a portal.

The 56-year-old American actor has been part of many blockbuster franchises in Hollywood, such as Kung Fu Panda, King Kong, and Jumanji. Jack Black isn’t new to video game adaptations, as he has worked on Borderlands, The Super Mario Bros movie, etc. Now the comedy king is reprising his lead role in a Minecraft movie 2, and we can’t wait to see his performance.

Kirsten Dunst as Alex

The newest cast member of A Minecraft Movie 2 is none other than the beloved actress, Kirsten Dunst. Earlier this year, Kirsten Dunst expressed her dream of a role in the Minecraft sequel, as her kids loved the first one. Her dreams soon became a reality as Kirsten Dunst was officially cast as Alex in A Minecraft Movie 2.

At the end of A Minecraft movie, Alex was teased to join the main characters’ group. Alex is the second playable character in the game and is also Steve’s romantic interest. So, we can expect Kirsten Dunst to play a major role in A Minecraft Movie 2. Kirsten Dunst is extremely popular for her roles in Spider-Man, Interview with the Vampire, Melancholia, Civil War, and more.

Jason Momoa as Garett Garrison

Lately, Jason Momoa has become the go-to celebrity for a video game adaptation. The 46-year-old American star is returning to portray the role of Garret “The Garbage Man” Garrison in A Minecraft Movie 2. This video game store owner was an original character made for the movie, and he is not part of the games.

Jason Momoa rose in popularity following his role as Aquaman in the DCEU, and he is currently playing Lobo in the Supergirl movie. What’s more interesting is that Jason Momoa is playing Blanka in the upcoming Street Fighter 2026 movie. And he is also set to play a lead character in the Helldivers live-action movie.

Danielle Brooks as Dawn Runcie

Danielle Brooks is returning as Dawn Runcie, the real estate agent, who accidentally ends up in Overworld, in A Minecraft Movie 2. Similar to Garret, Dawn is also an original character sketched for the movie. Thus, look forward to meeting Natalie’s kindhearted neighbor once again in Minecraft live-action.

Danielle Brooks rose in popularity with her role as Tasha in Orange Is the New Black. Then, her performance as Leotta Adebayo in the Peacemaker TV show was praised by fans worldwide. She was a standout among the star-studded Peacemaker cast, and we hope she gives a terrific performance as Dawn in the sequel.

Matt Berry as Nitwit

In case you didn’t know, Matt Berry was originally set to play the live-action version of Steve before Jack Black in A Minecraft Movie. However, he was switched to lend voice to the Nitwit character in the movie. He voiced the village for less than a minute in the post-credit scene of the first movie.

Since this Nitwit escaped the Overworld and is in love with Marlene now, we can hope to see more of Matt Berry as Nitwit in the sequel. Matt Berry, the English actor and comedian, is well-known for his roles in The IT Crowd, Toast of London, etc.

Jennifer Coolidge as Vice Principal Marlene

Jennifer Coolidge is back as Vice Principal Marlene in A Minecraft Movie 2. As her scenes with the Nitwit indicated, their romantic adventures will continue either on Earth or Overworld in the sequel. Thus, both Nitwit and Marlene are expected to have more screentime than in the predecessor movie.

The veteran actress and comedian has worked on numerous movies, TV series, and animated shows throughout her career. But she is best known for her roles in American Pie, The White Lotus, A Mighty Wind, Joey, and many more.
