Xiaomi has been teasing the launch of a new smartphone without revealing anything about the device or the exact launch date. The only thing the company had announced was that the event will be held in Chengdu, the capital of the Sichuan province, which is best known for being one of the major research centers for Giant Panda breeding in the country.

Now, the company has officially announced the date of its upcoming Chengdu event, which will be held on Wednesday, September 19. As can be seen from the tweet by Xiaomi’s global spokesperson and Director of Product Management, Donovan Sung, the company plans to unveil not one, but two new phones in the Mi 8 family on the day.

Xiaomi may not have revealed much in the short video teaser, but it does seem to suggest that at least one of the phones will have an in-display fingerprint scanner that is becoming increasingly popular among Android smartphones of late. While one of the two upcoming is believed to be the so-called Mi 8 Youth Edition, there’s no word on the other one just yet.

The Mi 8 Youth Edition was listed recently on the website of Chinese electronics certification agency, TENAA, revealing a few of its key hardware specs, even as Xiaomi remains tight-lipped about it.  It is expected to ship with a 6.26-inch (2280×1080) display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC, and either 4GB, 6GB or 8GB of RAM alongside 32GB, 64GB or 128GB of storage.

Cameras on the Mi 8 Youth Edition will reportedly include a massive 24MP front-facing unit and a dual-sensor rear-facing module that is said to include a 12MP+5MP setup. The device is also listed with a 3,250mAh battery and Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box.
