Windows 11 New Beta Updates Brings New Backup App & Redesigned Settings

Windows 11 Insider

Windows 11’s beta channel has received new features, which are expected to be a part of the upcoming 23H2 update. There’s the new Insider Preview Builds 22621.2199 and 22631.2199 and here’s a look at what we know about the upcoming changes.

New Settings Homepage in Windows 11 Beta

Windows 11 has played around a lot when it comes to the Settings app. Having used Windows for a long time, it has been somewhat frustrating to go to the same settings panel that you used to, but it feels much harder because they moved it around.

With the new settings homepage, Microsoft will solve this issue by offering a more ‘dynamic and personalized experience‘. In the new redesign for Windows 11’s Settings, users will now get convenient access to their recently used or common settings. Microsoft will make things more convenient to access whether it’s a network or audio setting that you need to access regularly.

The home page view of Settings will include up to seven interactive cards, with ‘more coming soon.’ Users will be able to quickly access things like their cloud storage settings, personalization menu for changing backgrounds, actions related to Microsoft 365 (plus Xbox Subscription), Bluetooth devices, and more.

New Backup App in Windows 11 Beta

Microsoft is overhauling the backup process for you. The intention is to make the process of moving to a new PC ‘easier than ever’. A new dedicated Windows Backup app is being introduced to help you safely back up your data, apps, and other things. By the way, you must have probably pinned some apps in the bottom taskbar and start menu. After moving to a new PC, these tend to go away.

But now, Microsoft is changing that. In the new update, you will get to easily reinstall your pinned start menu & taskbar applications with ease. Whether your apps are from the Microsoft Store, or available on a website, Windows will offer a convenient method in both cases when using the new backup app. Check out the screenshots below to get a look at these new features. This includes the new Windows backup app, what happens after you sign into a new PC with your Microsoft account, as well as the dialog box prompt for reinstalling a previously pinned third-party app.

There are a number of fixes too, which you can check out over here. Do note that you should probably not install Windows 11 Insider on your main computer, which you rely on. These early insider builds (which include beta & developer channels) aren’t exactly the most stable operating systems to use daily. Insider builds should only be used to preview beta Windows features. So, what are your thoughts on these upcoming new Windows 11 features? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
