Wednesday Addams is named Wednesday after a line of a rhyme: “Wednesday’s Child is full of woe.”

In Wednesday Season 1, Larissa Addams, Nevermore Academy’s principal, showed her curiosity after being introduced to Gomez and Morticia’s daughter’s name. So, she asked if her name signifies the day on which she was born, to which Wednesday replies that she was born on Friday, the 13th. Morticia Addams revealed that the name of their daughter is inspired by a traditional English Rhyme titled Monday’s Child. There’s a line in the rhyme stating, ‘Wednesday’s Child is full of woe,’ that captures the girl’s deadpan wit, Gothic style, and unapologetic individuality.

Wednesday Addams’ name is more of a creative choice for the creator to keep fans hooked. Additionally, the rhyme’s line adds depth to Wednesday’s personality traits, such as distress, sadness, and brutality.

Does the Name Wednesday Match Wednesday Addam’s Overall Personality?

Well, yes, the name is exactly what the girl looks like– a walking disaster. As per the rhyme, Wednesday’s child is full of woe, which means everything from misery to despair to every negative emotion out there. She is complex, creepy, and somewhat sadistic in most adaptations. The television series, which ran from 1964 to 1966, is an exception, though, as Wednesday in it is sweet and innocent. Doesn’t sound like Wednesday, with whom we are familiar today, right?

Wednesday has evolved throughout the years, and we must say the girl is nothing less than darkness. Her simple braids, black outfit, pale complexion, and fascination with death set her apart from the other children of her age. Wednesday doesn’t know how to show affection towards her loved ones, but when someone tries to hurt them, she doesn’t hesitate before stepping in to protect them. That being said, considering all the negative emotions inside her heart, she prefers to stay alone.
