The Recruiter was an ex-staff member of Squid Game who initially had the responsibility to burn the bodies of the dead participants. He worked hard for several years on the Squid Game premises and later got promoted as the Recruiter by the creator of the deadly program, Oh Il-nam.

Since then, he has approached numerous people who have huge debts on their heads. Well, that’s how he crossed paths with our protagonist in a subway. He was always seen wearing a suit and carrying a briefcase full of cash in his hand. Whenever he approached anyone, he used to play a game of Ddakji with them. If the candidate lost the match, he would get a slap, and if they won, they got rewarded with cash. For instance, after Gi-Hun won the game, the recruiter handed ₩100,000 to him.
In Squid Game 1, we saw the Recruiter and Gi-Hun conversing, and that’s when we learned that the former didn’t feel anything for the candidates who were killed in the games.

The man also reveals to Gi-Hun that he felt good when he received his first gun. “I felt acknowledged for the first time in my life,” he says. Moreover, he was to kill his own father when the old man lost the game, and the Recruiter didn’t see him as more than just a useless candidate.
