Mining in Crimson Desert isn’t just a side activity. Rather, you’ll often find yourself doing this job inside the caves to obtain the materials to upgrade your gear and earn the valuable minerals. So, if you want to create a perfect build before taking on the powerful enemies, this guide will help you learn where to find a pickaxe and mine in Crimson Desert, along with all that is required to get started.

How to Get a Pickaxe Early in Crimson Desert

The only requirement for mining in Crimson Desert is a pickaxe. Thankfully, the game provides you with one for free right at the beginning. All you need to do is head over to the quest board area at the center of the city of Hernand and take the notice for Rhett’s quest.

Bring the notice to the Rhett NPC, the one who sits at the Equipment shop at Hernand near the Blacksmith. Interact with him to start the quest of bringing 2 iron ores. This way, you earn a free pickaxe from Rhett.

Apart from this, you can purchase a pickaxe from the Provisioner’s Shop for 31 copper. You can also open up the Crimson Desert map and explore the areas to find abandoned pickaxes at random locations or camps.

As you progress in the game, there will be better pickaxes available with better stats. These will help you mine rarer minerals required for the powerful upgrades. Among all other methods, there is a hidden boss fight called Marni’s Excavation, located in the Karin Quarry.

Defeating this Crimson Desert boss will reward you with the Mining Knuckle Drill, which is a unique weapon that also functions as a mining tool. The boss will appear in a diving suit with spinning drill arms, and you must land your attacks carefully, because it can inflict massive damage.

Other than Pickaxes, you can also use powerful abilities and aim them at the ore deposits to break them. This is, however, not a recommended way to mine for resources in Crimson Desert.
