The talk of the town when Peacemaker Season 2 was announced came down to how this character, previously in the DCEU, will successfully transition to the new DCU. However, with the recap we saw in Peacemaker Season 2, James Gunn made it clear that he has not just created the DCEU, he has effectively erased the DCEU out of existence altogether. This is because in the recap sequence for season 1 in Peacemaker Season 2, he has removed the finale appearance of the Justice League and instead, brought in the Justice Gang, and I’m here to tell you all about it.
What Happened in Peacemaker Season 2’s Recap Sequence?
If you have a revision of Season 1 before watching the new one, you would know that Peacemaker Season 1 ended with a cameo from the Justice League and Peacemaker cussing out at Aquaman while telling them that they are late. However, in Peacemaker Season 2, we see that the recap for Season 1 replaces the Justice League with the Justice Gang, and instead of cussing out Aquaman, Peacemaker does that to Guy Gardner.
This change made to the lore of Peacemaker so far is quite massive because, as I said above, this change not only brings Peacemaker into the DCU, but also wipes out the slate completely, erasing everything that we have previously seen in the DCEU as James Gunn replaces Aquaman, Superman, The Flash, and Wonder Woman with Mister Terrific, Superman, Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Supergirl in the recap sequence.
As far as my opinion goes, this change was pretty important to make it absolutely clear that the DCEU is gone and all that exists now is the new DCU. Moreover, it has also helped to make it clear that Christopher did not change timelines as it was speculated before, but instead, the entire timeline changed, and for good.
