Pale ale is an Artisan Goods drink that you can acquire in two ways (see section below). It’s an alcoholic drink, so you’ll get the “tipsy” debuff that decreases your movement speed by 1 when you consume it.

Apart from that, pale ale will provide you with 50 energy and 22 health with base quality. You can also make pale ale better quality if you age them in casks, but more on that later.

How to Make Pale Ale in Stardew Valley

To make pale ale, you will need to place hops in the keg and wait for them to turn into the desired artisan good. This process will take 1-2 in-game days, but you can instantly receive this product if you use fairy dust on the keg.

The keg is a machine that is unlocked once you reach Farming skill level 8. You may also get the keg as a reward for completing the artisan bundle or brewer’s bundle in the community center. You may place the kegs inside buildings or outside, so there are many optimized keg layouts.

The recipe for the keg is pretty straightforward and requires the following resources:

  • 30 Wood
  • 1 Copper Bar
  • 1 Iron Bar
  • 1 Oak Resin

Hops is a vegetable crop you can harvest from hops starters during summer. Hops starter is a seed you can buy from Pierre for 60g or Joja Mart, the traveling cart, and the Night Market for different amounts of gold. These vegetables grow on a trellis, so they do have a hitbox. Therefore, be careful where you plant these so you can move around and collect all the hops.

The hops starter will require 11 full days to mature and produce the first hops harvest on the next day. However, the most amazing thing about the hops starter is that it continues producing hops every single day afterward. So if you have lots of them, you’ll have lots of hops.

In addition to producing pale ale yourself, you can also buy it if you have the Ginger island unlocked and Beach Resort built. You’ll be able to buy it from Gus for 1000 gold.

What Is Pale Ale Used for in Stardew Valley

Pale ale can be used for a few different things in Stardew Valley. First of all, you need it for Pam’s quest called “Pam is Thirsty”. You will receive a mail on Summer 14 from Pam asking you to bring her the pale ale. This will yield 350 gold and a friendship heart.

Furthermore, pale ale itself is a fairly profitable product. From hops that are worth 25g by default, you get pale ale that’s worth 300g, making it twelve times more valuable, which is pretty crazy.

But that’s not all. You can place pale ale inside a cask to age it. The cask is another machine that you will unlock once you upgrade your farmhouse to the fullest. It’s very easy to craft and can make a world of difference when it comes to some products.

After you right-click a cask with a pale ale, it’ll require nine days to reach silver quality. Eight days after that the pale ale will turn into gold quality. And finally 17 days later, 34 days in total from the beginning, pale ale will reach iridium quality. Check out the table below showing the prices of pale ale with different qualities.

Once the pale ale reaches any of the middle stages inside a cask it’ll continue aging. However, if you want to obtain it while it’s let’s say gold quality, you can simply use an axe, hoe, or a pickaxe on the cask and the pale ale will pop out.

If you choose to remix the community center bundles, you may need pale ale in the brewer’s bundle inside the pantry. Also, just like many other items in Stardew Valley, you can use pale ale to tailor a special piece of clothing. In this case, it’s a black leather jacket.

When it comes to giving pale ale to NPCs as a gift, expectedly Pam loves it, but most other villagers like it as well. You can follow our Sam gift guide to learn what else he likes. The only exceptions are the children, Penny, and Sebastian who hate pale ale.

And just like that, you now know how to get pale ale and what to do with it in Stardew Valley. This is a rather useful item and you will need it to reach perfection. So, we hope this guide helped you and if it did, don’t forget to share it with your friends.

How many hops does it take to make pale ale?
