PlayStation Portal Remote Player: Specs and Features
So, what exactly does the PlayStation Portal Remote Player pack in its internals that makes it a good cloud gaming device for PlayStation games? Many things come into play here, but first, let’s discuss the design of the Portal remote player itself. Because of how Sony has engineered this device, it’s definitely aiming to be the most suitable device for playing PlayStation 5 games on the go.
The PlayStation Portal remote player is the closest cloud gaming device to a real PS5. This is because it comes with all the features of the DualSense controller such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. These are very important in contributing towards the quintessential, signature PlayStation 5 gaming experience, so it’s actually one of the best features of the PS Portal remote player.
Sony mentioned that it has a ‘vibrant‘ 8-inch LCD screen capable of 1080p resolution at 60fps. We haven’t received any details about the screen specifications. But, Sony seems to be confident in the screen’s ability to give people a good experience. It would have definitely been nice to see HDR support or the color coverage of the display. But, we’ll know these details on the screen once the device launches later this year.
Apart from this, the handheld comes with a USB-C port, speakers, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It supports playing games over Wi-Fi with a minimum speed requirement of 5Mbps to function. The company also said 15Mbps speed is required for an ‘optimal experience’.
Additionally, Sony also announced a new Pulse Elite wireless headset with lossless audio support. These are over-ear headphones and are very suitable for gaming on this device or the PS5 itself. They also released wireless earbuds, called the Pulse Explore.
