Shanks, one of the mightiest four emperors of the sea in One Piece, has always been a force to be reckoned with. As he doesn’t have any devil fruit powers, he has honed his skills in all forms and advanced techniques of Haki, like his former captain, Roger. Furthermore, we can’t forget that Shanks is a Conqueror’s Haki (Haoshoku Haki) specialist and is incredibly skilled at using this form of Haki.

Fun Fact: At the start of the Fish-Man Island arc, Oda mentioned that Shanks’ Conqueror’s Haki was at least twice as powerful as Luffy’s.

By holding immense mastery over Haoshoku Haki, Shanks replicated his former captain’s legendary move called Divine Departure (Kamusari). This attack is produced primarily by coating the weapon, especially a sword, with Conqueror’s Haki. It is similar to how we have seen characters imbue their sword with armament Haki.

Then, the user can perform an extremely overpowered slash attack, one that’s imbued with Conqueror’s Haki, to obliterate their opponents with just this single move.

For example, Shanks was successfully able to defeat Eustass Kid and Killer with a single blow using the Divine Departure attack in the anime recently. Lastly, you’ll see black lightning bolts emanating from the user’s weapon during this attack and this Conqueror’s Haki-infused slash attack can make weak enemies froth at their mouths.

Who Else Can Use Divine Departure in One Piece?

The Divine Departure aka Kamusari can only be performed by a handful of people in the One Piece realm. This is because this attack requires the user to be highly skilled in Conqueror’s Haki and the aforementioned Haki is a skill that only one person in a million is born with.

To date, only two characters, namely Gol D. Roger and Shanks, in One Piece are the ones who have performed the Divine Departure attack.

Roger delivered a powerful slash laced with Conqueror’s haki against Kozuki Oden when they first met in Wano. This sent Oden hurtling miles away in the air, knocking him down. This devastating move has now been replicated by Shanks, Roger’s true heir, against Kid.

Shanks defeated Kid with a single blow using the Kamusari move, setting up one of the most famous scenes in One Piece history. That said, what is your favorite Divine Departure moment in the series? Let us know in the comments below.
