Difference Between Standard Pangram and “Perfect Pangram”
In the NYT Spelling Bee game, the Pangram can be of two types – a Standard Pangram and a Perfect Pangram.
Both the Pangrams use all the letters of the hive, aka the honeycomb grid, alongwith the central letter. They also yield the same amount of points. However, there are some key differences that make finding a Perfect Pangram a lot more difficult than the standard Pangram.
- Letter Repetition: You can repeat letters while making a standard Pangram. But, for a Perfect Pangram, letters must not be repeated. This means the seven letters can be used exactly once.
- Number of Letters: The number of letters in a standard Pangram can be more than seven. However, it must be exactly seven for a Perfect Pangram.

Most daily puzzles contain at least one standard Pangram. But, occasionally, you may find some rare puzzles that have a perfect Pangram hidden in them.
How Scoring Works for NYT Spelling Bee Pangrams
Now that you know what a Pangram is, let me break down how many points you can get from them.

Calculating the Bonus Points
As discussed, each Pangram uses seven or more letters to form a word. You are awarded 1 point for each letter and a bonus of 7 points. For a perfect Pangram with 7 letters, you will receive 14 points (7 letter points + 7 bonus). These are the base points for a Pangram, and it increases with more letters in a word.
For Pangrams which have more than seven words, you further earn a point for each letter, and 7 bonus points. For example, let’s say the Pangram has 10 words. This means you’ll get a total of 17 points (10 letter points + 7 bonus).

Spotting the Pangram can be quite difficult if you’ve found plenty of words, as the same patterns will be visible to you again and again. That’s why we have included some helpful strategies that can help you identify Pangrams with minimum effort.
Identifying Suffixes and Prefixes
When searching for a Pangram in Spelling Bee, look for suffixes like -ing, -ed, -er, -ful, -on, and -est, and prefixes like re-, un-, pre-, dis-, in-, and im-. You can try various combinations with the words you’ve already found, and work around them.
The suffixes and prefixes you choose shall depend on the letters of the hive. For example, if the letters of the hive are A, B, C, I, L, N, O. The Pangram might end with “-ING” and “-TION,” or start with “IN-.” A, B, C, I, L, N, O letters can form a Pangram BACILLON, which ends with the suffix “-on.”
The “Shuffle” Button Technique
If you’ve hit a wall after finding plenty of words but not a single Pangram, your best option is to use the Shuffle Button for a different visual pattern.
Clicking the shuffle button won’t give you new letters, but it does rearrange them. This allows you to get different letters next to each other, which helps you see obvious words and new patterns that you might have missed.
