How to Get Mega Beedrill in Pokemon GO
Mega Beedrill can only be obtained by mega evolving a Beedrill using Mega Energy. Currently, the main way to collect Mega Beedrill Energy is by participating in Mega Raids in Pokemon GO. Depending on your performance and how quickly you defeat the raid boss, each successful raid can reward around 150 to 250 Mega Energy.

That said, having a Beedrill with strong IVs is just as important before mega evolving it. After defeating Mega Beedrill in raids, you’ll get a chance to encounter a regular Beedrill, which can be a great opportunity to find one with good stats without spending too many resources on evolving it yourself.
Alternatively, you can catch Weedle in the wild and farm Weedle Candy to evolve it into Beedrill before mega evolving it. Trading Weedle or members of its evolution line is also a solid option, especially if you’re hoping to get a Lucky Pokemon with better stats and lower upgrade costs. Can Mega Beedrill Be Shiny?
Yes, you can Mega Evolve a shiny Beedrill into Mega Beedrill in Pokemon GO. Beedrill obtained from Mega Raid Battles has a shiny rate of around 1 in 20, giving players a fairly good chance of encountering one.
During special events like Community Days, the shiny odds are boosted even further to roughly 1 in 25. Outside of events and raids, regular Weedle in the wild usually has the standard shiny rate of about 1 in 500.
Where is Mega Beedrill Ranked in Pokemon GO Meta?
Mega Beedrill is a glass canon Pokemon, with an incredibly high Attack stat, which allows it to perform well in specific parts of the Pokemon GO meta. Here’s a closer look at its rankings:
- Raid Attacker: Mega Beedrill performs exceptionally well in raids, especially against Grass-, Psychic-, and Dark-type Pokemon. With moves like Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb, it stands among the strongest Poison-type raid attackers in the game. When trying to use it as a Bug-type, Fury Cutter and X-Scissor make it a top-tier Bug / Poison attacker in the game.
- Gym Defender: Mega Pokemon cannot be assigned to gyms, so Mega Beedrill has no role in the Gym Defender category. Even outside of its Mega form, Beedrill’s low bulk makes it a weak defensive choice.
- Bug Type Attacker: Mega Beedrill is one of the better Bug-type attackers available due to its massive Attack stat and Mega boost support for teammates. However, Bug-types are rarely dominant in raids compared to Dragon, Ice, or Fighting-types. Even so, you can use Mega Beedrill as a top Bug-type Pokemon for PvE content.
- Poison Type Attacker: This is where Mega Beedrill truly stands out. Its high attack and Mega Evolution bonuses make it one of the absolute best Poison-type DPS in Pokemon GO. It can outperform most competitors and falls in the top 3 Poison-type attackers.
- Great League and Ultra League: Mega Evolutions are not allowed in standard GO Battle League formats, which limits Mega Beedrill’s PvP relevance. However, Beedrill can occasionally be used in special Great League formats.
- Master League: Mega Beedrill sees almost no impact in Master League due to poor defensive stats, making it far too fragile against bulky Legendary Pokemon and powerful meta threats.
