I’m talking about Shakky, Rayleigh’s partner in the story. Earlier, Oda silently unveiled a surprise about Shakky’s history in the Egghead arc, and now the author continues to make even more shocking revelations about Shakky’s past in the story. Shakuyaku, better known as Shakky, was introduced in One Piece as the bartender of Shakky’s Rip-Off Bar in Sabaody. Five hundred chapters later in the story, Shakky was revealed to be the former Pirate Empress of Amazon Lily two generations before Boa Hancock. Thus, Shakky is confirmed to have hailed from the Kuja tribe.
Loki’s backstory (which is currently underway in the manga) also brought more of her past to light. Shakky used to be the First Mate of Gloriosa, the former captain of Kuja Pirates’ three predecessors before. Though Gloriosa’s fame spread far and wide with her beauty, Shakky’s allure brought the world to her feet, outshining her own captain.
After Gloriosa left to join the Rocks Pirates, Shakky became the captain of Kuja Pirates and also reigned as the Pirate Empress of Amazon Lily during her prime. For unknown reasons, Shakky retired as a pirate 40 years ago and moved to Hachinosu Island to escape from the Marines. She set her first bar on the pirate island and became a bartender. Now, she owns the bar at Sabaody and continues as a bartender to this day.
How Old Is Shakky in One Piece?
Shakky was about 20-22 years old when she embarked on her pirate journey as a member of the Kuja Pirates. Coming back to the present, Shakky is confirmed to be 62 years old during her debut in the Sabaody Archipelago. After the two-year time skip in the story, Shakky is currently 64 years old in One Piece. Despite being in her 60s, Shakky looks far younger than her age would suggest.
Is Shakky Rayleigh’s Wife?
Similar to how Boa Hancock, Shakky was the most beautiful woman of her era. Countless men sought her, including legendary characters such as Gol D. Roger, Scopper Gaban, Rocks D. Xebec, Whitebeard, etc. Though the whole world was spellbound by her goddess-level beauty, Shakky gave her heart to one man who didn’t, Rayleigh.
So, yes, Rayleigh and Shakky are in a relationship, and there is no confirmation regarding their official marriage in the series. A debate is still ongoing among fans about whether they are married or not in the story. Therefore, one can say that Shakky is the girlfriend of Rayleigh.
Shakky and Her Connection to the God Valley Incident
For years, the crown jewel of Hachinosu Island, seized by the World Government, was believed to be some kind of treasure or a devil fruit. However, Oda surprised the fans with the twist that Shakuyaku is the crown jewel who was kidnapped by the World Government and listed as a luxurious prize for the winner at God Valley in chapter 1157.
Kyo, aka Silver Axe, of the Rocks Pirates, is heavily speculated to be an undercover Marine who abducted and offered her to the World Government. The primary reason Roger Pirates and Rocks Pirates sailed to the God Valley was Shakky in the past, and not some other treasure chest. Based on the manga’s current progress, we will get to the God Valley incident shortly in the upcoming chapters. Then we can find out more about the connection between Shakky and the God Valley war.
Unknown Facts About Shakky in One Piece

1. Shakky’s Connection With Rocks
Six years ago, a fan questioned Oda about Shakky’s connection with the Rocks in SBS Volume 90. Oda’s response to this question was very similar to his answer to Usopp getting Nikyu Nikyu no Mi theory, i.e., dodged the question. Coming back to the present, the truth becomes much clearer now as Shakky indeed had a connection with Rocks and his crew. The Rocks Pirates members, such as Whitebeard, Shiki, etc, were swooning over Shakky along with their captain.
Uh…!! That was 30 years ago, and from before volume 40! Why do you remember that? I… I don’t know a thing! Uh… Fwe… Fwee~ Fwee~ [whistling noises]
They considered her the crown jewel of Hachinosu, and they went to the God Valley to rescue her from the Celestial Dragons, as I stated above. Oda obviously had to dismiss the connection when a fan pointed it out, as he was saving it for a later time.
2. The Real Meaning Behind Shakky’s Name
In case you are not aware, all the members of the Kuja tribe were given a flower-based name. Shakuyaku is the Japanese word for the famous ‘Peony’ flower native to Asian and European countries. Therefore, smart fans figured out Shakky’s origins just based on her name when she made her debut in the story. Moreover, that also technically makes her the first Kuja pirate we met in the story.
3. Shakky’s Favorite Drink
Of course, Shakky’s favorite person in the world is Rayleigh-san, but we were going to talk about Shakky’s favorite drink. It is none other than Whiskey, and it makes sense as the bartender of Rip-Off bar.
