At the end of the Egghead arc, he teased the silhouette of a mysterious man with a hat who was specifically waiting for the Straw Hats on Elbaf Island. This saw the fandom come up with numerous theories and speculations to find out who this character was. After months of teasing, Oda has finally revealed the mysterious man in One Piece Chapter 1139. Scopper Gaban Is the Mysterious Man At Elbaf
Whenever a silhouette gets teased, One Piece fans automatically head to the idea of the character being Scopper Gaban. This has happened all over for decades since Gaban’s debut in 1997. It’s natural for fans to witness such a legendary character’s return in the story.
Finally, the dream became a reality in One Piece chapter 1139 in which Oda reintroduced an older Scopper Gaban.
For those who aren’t aware, Gaban is the left-hand man of Gol D. Roger, similar to Sanji being the left-hand man of Luffy. Scopper Gaban’s name also included a metal name similar to ‘Silvers’ Rayleigh, ‘Gol D.’ Roger. It hinted at him being a prominent and strong figure of the Roger Pirates during their era. Now, his fame is preached by the giants just to remind us of how formidable he is.
Gaban who goes by the title of Ya-san in Elbaf confirmed that he has heard about the tales of Straw Hat Luffy and has been waiting to meet him. So, the fans’ prediction of Gaban being the mysterious man who was waiting for Luffy turned out to be true in the end.
The Significance of Scopper Gaban in Elbaf
Throughout the story, Luffy’s life has always been tied to the Roger Pirates. For example, Roger inspired Luffy, got his devil fruit from Shanks, was later trained by Rayleigh, and so on. Therefore, as many fans believe, it is time for Scopper Gaban to play his role and give one final push to Luffy toward greatness. This may well be the final training arc we get before the third great war breaks out.
As expected, Gaban has turned out to be the mysterious man on Elbaf island. With Loki about to be freed and God’s Knights invading the giants’ turf, we will also witness the incredible axeman-ship of the old man very soon.
