The mothers in a flashback sequence in the One Piece series are always doomed to meet their end soon. Bell-mère, Vinsmoke Sora, Banchina, and many more fan-favorite mother characters had departed from the world way sooner in the flashbacks. Mothers are the antithesis of adventure to the author, and so he always finds a way to eliminate them in the most soul-crushing manner. Ida, Hajrudin and Loki’s mother, is one of the kindest characters we met in the Elbaf arc. However, the worst outcome for her character that we always feared happened in One Piece chapter 1168.

Is Ida Dead in One Piece?

The relatives of Estrid, the deceased queen of Elbaf, didn’t want Ida to become the next queen, as she didn’t have the blood of the ancient giants. Moreover, these degenerates sought to inherit all the wealth and possessions of the Elbaf royal family for themselves. Therefore, they stooped so low and poisoned Ida without her knowledge. Loki, who learned about this bitter truth, attacked his kin for pushing his mother to the brink of her death in the previous chapter.
As a result, Loki was seen imprisoned for his actions in One Piece chapter 1168. Unfortunately, Ida has already passed at this point, as we first saw her grave before Oda gave us a glimpse of her final moments. The ergot poisoning affected Ida’s body severely, and she became bedridden in her final days.
In her final moments, Ida got to talk with her lover, Harald, about his ideals, their marriage, which should have happened but didn’t, and finally about their sons, Hajrudin and Loki. These are all the things that kept Ida moving forward in life, but not anymore. As King Harald expressed his dream of traveling the world together, Ida replied that she was looking forward to it, but she slowly succumbed to the effects of ergot poisoning.
King Harald couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Ida died before she could become Harald’s legal wife, as the king wished. It’s a sad ending to such an amazing character; Ida was the one who changed Harald’s vision for the good, and she didn’t get a chance to live in the new Elbaf.
Hajrudin rushed to the place only to see his mother dead with a smile on her face. But the worst of all is actually Loki, who never got to be near his mother’s side in her final moments. Ida’s death played out right after we witnessed the saddest death of Rocks D. Xebec not long ago.
To be honest, I’ve lost count of how many times Oda killed off the most kind-hearted mothers who deserved to live for a long time. And Oda does it so effortlessly that he never fails to make the tears run down our faces when witnessing the deaths of these amazing characters.
