All of Mel Abilities in League of Legends Explained

Mel Medarda, the daughter of Ambessa Medarda and an esteemed councilor of Piltover wasn’t just a political character as we initially considered her to be in Arcane. Ever since she and her love interest Jayce came out unscathed after Jinx attacked Piltover Tower, people have been questioning whether she has some groundbreaking powers. After revealing her powers in Arcane season 2, Mel arrives in LoL after her mother Ambessa joined the game as an original legend. So, let us discuss Mel’s powers and abilities in the League of Legends.

League of Legends Mel Release Date

First, let us put to rest the most important question – when is Mel coming to League of Legends? In the Champion Spotlight video released by Riot Games recently, it was revealed that Mel Medarda will be added to League of Legends on January 23, 2025, with patch 25.S1.2.

Mel Abilities in League of Legends

Mel Medarda is the second character coming to LoL after being revealed in Arcane first. She is a mage with strong crowd control abilities and reflects incoming damage. Here is a list of Mel’s main abilities in League of Legends:

1. Searing Brilliance (Passive)

Mel’s passive helps her gain three bonus projectiles whenever she uses her abilities. This means if you use her ability, the next auto attack will be three projectiles with one normal attack. However, this projectile count is capped at nine.

Along with it, Mel also applies Overwhelm with each ability or attack. This effect has infinity stacks. Once Mel hits an enemy with enough Overwhelm damage, they will die instantly by consuming the stacks.

2. Radiant Volley (Q)

Mel’s first ability in League of Legends is a projectile barrage. Once you use it on a target location, it will deal damage after explosion. This damage repeats on everyone in that area at the same time.

3. Rebuttal (W)

If you have seen Arcane, the Rebuttal ability comes straight out of the final episode of the series. If an attacker throws an ability, it lets Mel reflect that back at the attacker. Remember, the reflection only works for projectile-based abilities (even if it is not a point-target skill).

After using Rebuttal, Mel slows the attacker and takes zero damage. On top of the reflection, the ability gives Mel further movement speed buffs.

4. Solar Snare (E)

The key part about Mel’s League of Legends abilities kit is her crowd control ability. Mel can throw an orb that snares enemies who are touched by it. The enemies who stay in the central area of the orb get rooted. Along with that, the nearby characters receive a negative slow buff.

5. Golden Eclipse (R)

Mel’s ultimate ability lets you strike all Overwhelmed enemies at once. So, if you have marked multiple characters with your auto attacks and abilities, you cast Golden Eclipse at the right time to deal additional damage. Level up ult to increase your Overwhelm passive’s damage.

Mel Medarda was kidnapped by a member (potentially LeBlanc) of the Black Rose and was locked inside the Oculorum, a magical chamber. Inside the Oculorum, Mel learned the truth about her origins from the mysterious character who impersonated her brother, Kino.

The truth is that Mel Medarda is an illegitimate child who was born as a result of Ambessa having an affair with a man from Basilich. The member of Black Rose remarked that the secret connection was the source of Mel’s newfound powers in the story.

You are an empath and attuned to ethereal – Black Rose Member

After Mel shattered the thorn domain with her newfound power, the mysterious member confirmed that Mel Medarda is a mage/sorceress similar to her. Moreover, she belongs to a rare category of mage as they described her as an empath. According to them, Mel is like a conduit and a mirror at the same time as she has the power to sense other people’s inner selves and bend their magic.

Mel’s magical powers are a merit. That’s why the Black Rose was interested in recruiting her from the beginning. Although she has progressed quickly, it is clear that Mel has a lot to learn about her Arcane powers. In the finale, she is seen heading back to Noxus as her mother Ambessa was killed. So, we are bound to see more of Mel’s powers in the Noxian Empire in the upcoming expansions in Arcane’s universe.

After rocking in the series, Mel shows her Arcane powers and abilities in the League of Legends game. That said, do you think Mel can survive the new LoL meta? Let us know in the comments below.
