Gege Akutami has returned with a new manga, but unlike what many fans believed, the mangaka hasn’t come back with a brand new story. Instead, his new story, titled “Mojuro,” is the official spin-off of the original Jujutsu Kaisen series. This new story takes place around six decades after the original story. This time skip means that several of the main characters from the JJK series are dead. Of course, it will take a few more chapters, actually to know who is alive in the spin-off series, but for now, Gege has confirmed the death of two main characters in the JJK spin-off series Modulu.
Gege Akutami Kills the Power Couple of the Jujutsu Kaisen Series in Mojuro
The official release of Jujutsu Kaisen “Mojuro” or “Modulo” is still a few hours away; however, if the leaks and spoilers are to be believed, the story of the spin-off takes place sixty-two years after the main story. It means that Yuji, Nobara, and Fushiguro are really old at this point; they might be alive, but they will be insignificant to the story because of their old age. At the same time, the spin-off manga also confirms that Yuta and Maki, who get married a few years after Sukuna’s defeat, die of old age.
Yes, the power couple of the Jujutsu Kaisen series doesn’t die fighting some ancient, powerful curse. Instead, they lead full lives, get married, have kids, and have grandchildren. They die naturally, and it was Maki who left the mortal plane first. Yuta continues to live on for a few more years and guides Yukki and Tsugiri to become powerful sorcerers. However, as confirmed in the first chapter, Yuta loses most of his energy after Maki’s death. In short, he almost loses his will to live after losing his loved one. Then, after a few years, Yuta joins Maki in the afterlife as well.
Of course, fans are excited to see Yuji, Nobara, and Fushiguro in the spin-off series, and it would certainly be exciting to see what these three characters would bring to the table in the spin-off series. However, the fact that Yuta, who was second to Gojo in terms of power, won’t be a part of Mojuro is a shocker. At the same time, Maki was also a significant part of the original JJK series, and she grew tremendously strong by the end of the series. So, it’s a shame that we won’t see these two main characters guiding the young general of sorcerers in Mojuro.
All being said, it’s a relief that both Yuta and Maki lived on for several decades and didn’t meet some dark fate. In the end, our beloved characters continued to live on peacefully, which means all the effort to beat Sukuna was worth it.
