Transformers was fairly popular with its animated shows but the actual boom in its popularity generating a cult-like fanbase came with the first live-action adaptation released in 2007. However, even though the live-action franchise gave us some insane stories, none of them ever explored the origin story of the legendary enmity shared by Megatron and Optimus Prime. Now, that has changed since Transformers One, the new animated flick in the franchise is set to bring, for the very first time, the origin story of Megatron and Optimus Prime and how they became sworn enemies. However, is Transformers One canon to live-action?
Transformers One Is Canon and Its Own Thing at the Same Time
Josh Cooley, the director of Transformers One, had a conversation with Comicbook, where he was asked if Transformers One is going to be a canon to the live-action Transformers movies or be its own thing. To this question, he told them that this movie is going to serve as both. In his statement, he said-
“The answer is yes to all of the above, Hasbro gave me this bible of the entire history of Transformers, which is, as you probably know, massive. And I was like, ‘Wow, I did not know it went this deep.’ It was like this Tolkien-esque scale. There’s obviously different variations of it, so we did our take on the origin, which is still staying true to the lore of Transformers. But it’s also something we’ve never seen before on screen. So I wouldn’t say that this is a direct prequel to anything that’s been done with live-action ones, but it’s definitely its own story as well”
So, with that being said by the director himself, it seems that this movie is made in such a way that it will give a nod to the live-action Transformers franchise but will do its own thing. The affirmation it gives to the live-action movies is evident by how, in the live-action, Optimus Prime has often recalled how he and Megatron were like brothers which is exactly what we see in the Transformers One trailer.
With the details we have for now, it’s safe to say that even though it’s not exactly canon it still fits at the top of the live-action Transformers movies in chronological order and to know more about where this movie will take us, we will have to wait till September 20, 2024. Till then stay tuned with us for further updates!
