The My Hero Academia manga by Kohei Horikoshi began its serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump on July 7, 2014. Over time, this superhero manga transformed itself into a sensation and became one of the best-selling manga of all time, with more than 100 million copies in circulation worldwide.

To answer your question, whether the My Hero Academia manga is complete or not, after running successfully for over a decade, the My Hero Academia manga ended with an additional epilogue chapter, chapter 431, on December 4, 2024.

The battle between our beloved superheroes and All For One’s villain army came to an end with the defeat of Tomura Shigaraki. Manga Chapter 424 marked the conclusion of the final arc and the start of the epilogue for this grand superhero saga.

During the epilogue, the mangaka took his sweet time to bring the story full circle, including an eight-year time skip that reveals more about the future of all our favorite young superheroes. Fans initially thought My Hero Academia manga ended with 430 chapters altogether, after the epilogue chapters.

However, Kohei Horikoshi released an additional epilogue chapter to provide more insight into the future of our superheroes and also to answer fans’ queries about Deku and Ochaco Uraraka’s official relationship status at the end of the series. After 3 sagas featuring 23 arcs and 431 chapters, My Horikoshi sensei’s Hero Academia manga reached its end in 2024.

Although the source material, i.e., the My Hero Academia manga, has officially ended, there is still time left for the MHA anime to wrap up the story.

At the time of writing this article, the My Hero Academia season 8 is adapting the last chapters of the Final War Arc, with the battle of Armored All Might vs. All For One and Deku vs. Shigaraki taking center stage. So, there are a total of only 33 chapters left to be adapted in the MHA anime.

The ongoing MHA Season 8 is confirmed to be the final season of the series and has around ten episodes to go. So, if the anime adapts about 3–4 chapters per episode, Season 8 will end on December 13 this year.

Therefore, My Hero Academia anime will have a total of 8 seasons and 170 episodes at the end of its decade-long run later this year. This may be the end of the road for My Hero Academia, but its new spin-off series will carry the torch next.

In case you aren’t aware, an MHA spin-off series titled Vigilantes aired earlier this year. If you are wondering whether it’s a canon story, Kohei Horikoshi considers the Vigilantes spin-off series a canon story taking place in the MHA universe, despite not writing this manga.

The first season ended this year with around 13 episodes. It was praised for its new story about vigilantes and incredible animation from Studio Bones. Some of the fan-favorite characters from the MHA series, such as All Might, Eraser Head, Hero Killer Stain, etc, also appear in the spin-off series.

With the main MHA series concluding this year, you can start following MHA: Vigilantes to fill the void left by Deku and his friends. The first season covered only 30 chapters, and the spin-off manga has 132 chapters in total. So, we can expect MHA: Vigilantes to last for 3-4 seasons in the upcoming years. In this way, MHA can live on through its spin-off Vigilantes series.

Since it’s been more than a long time since MHA ended, Kohei Horikoshi has already opened up about his next manga earlier this year. He is currently in the process of storyboarding his new work:

I was “lucky” with my Hero Academia’s success, so I’m already feeling a lot of pressure to start the next one, but I plan to draw a manga with a new title as soon as possible. Next time, I wanted to divide the work and only do the illustrations, but my editor told me, “You’d better do everything,” so I’m currently working slowly on the storyboard.

We don’t know if Horikoshi-sensei will create a sequel to My Hero Academia or a spin-off series, like how Gege Akutami came up with Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. So, MHA has come to a conclusion for now, and we should wait and see if the author has any plans to revive his magnum opus. That said, do you think Horikoshi should make a My Hero Academia sequel manga? Let us knw in the comments below.
