The iPhone X brings a major overhaul to the iPhones we know and love. There’s a lot of new in the iPhone but the two features to make the most noise are: Face ID and Animojis. While Face ID has been in the news for mostly the wrong reasons, Animojis have been in the news for the all the fun reasons, which work through the Face ID sensors in the iPhone X, or do they?
Apparently, Animojis work fine even when you just cover the Face ID sensors. They obviously stop working when you cover the front-facing camera. This new fact has been discovered by popular YouTuber, Marques Brownlee aka MKBHD. In the video, you can see that the Animojis are working even when he’s covering the Face ID sensors. You can see for yourself at around the 11:40 mark:
I know what you are thinking. Why did Apple not bring Animojis to older iPhones or the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus? Maybe they wanted the iPhone X to have an exclusive feature or maybe, once the Face ID sensors map your face, the device does not require these sensors for Animojis.
Well, the folks over at TheNextWeb tested out the same on two iPhone Xs and found that Animojis work flawlessly when you start using Animojis and then cover up the Face ID sensors. However, on the other hand, if you cover up the sensors before starting Animojis, the Animojis will work but the experience is a bit laggy. I tried it on our iPhone X and this is indeed true. Either ways, it’s clear that Apple could have managed to bring Animojis to iPhone 8 and 8 Plus but didn’t because the experience isn’t as good as it is with Face ID sensors.
