It is a tradition for the majority of the comics to have an omniscient narrator who updates us about the happenings in the respective universes. While there wasn’t any narrator in Invincible season 1, the team brought a popular actor and comedian to serve as the narrator of the Invincible show from the second season. Who Voices the Narrator in Invincible Show?
The Invincible show introduced a narrator during the events of season 2 to let the character have their privacy and more importantly for comedic effect. Thus, the Invincible team recruited the famous actor and comedian, Paul F. Tompkins to become the hilarious narrator of the Invincible TV show.
If the Invincible Narrator’s voice seems so familiar, it’s because Paul also voiced the well-known character, Mr. Peanutbutter in the Netflix blockbuster animated series Bojack Horseman. Paul has worked in many notable movies and shows such as There Will Be Blood, Criminal Minds, etc. He is also the voice of Bentley Wittman in the recent Marvel animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
In an interview with Variety, Robert Kirkman (the creator of Invincible) talked about the role of the Narrator and how he sways the audience’s attention comically to skip explicit content in the Invincible show.
“That’s kind of done for comedic effect. We got the great Paul F. Tompkins in there [as the narrator], you know: “Dear viewer, we must look away!” To a certain extent, I think it’s commentary on the American sensibility. We are a Puritan-founded nation that will allow insane violence on TV, but if you start showing nudity…” – Robert Kirkman
The addition of a narrator and hiring Paul F. Tompkins is a welcoming move as the narrator never fails to amuse us whenever he pops up.
