Crimson Desert offers the players the exact freedom they desire, and of course, you can steal things in the game when you cannot make your way up. When the dark desires take over you, and you try to steal something, you will find that you can’t steal anything, as the stealing option is locked early in the game. So, if you are curious about how to steal and become the infamous thief of Pywel, discover more about stealing in our guide here.

How to Get a Mask in Crimson Desert?

Alright, the reason why the stealing option seems locked when you attempt to steal for the first time in Crimson Desert is that you need a mask. Yes, equipping a mask is the only way to turn into a thief in Crimson Desert, and here are the different ways you can get a mask:

  • You are bound to run into a group of bandits as soon as you hop into the game.
  • Just defeat them, and you can find a mask in one of the bandits’ bodies.
  • If you couldn’t get the random mask drop from a bandit’s body, the good news is that you can buy one for 10 copper coins in a Back Alley Shop.

We are certain that you will eventually find a mask very early in the game, as you will be facing a group of bandits frequently in the opening hours.

Stealing in Crimson Desert Explained

The locked steal option fades away as soon as you equip a mask. With a mask equipped, you are a professional thief now, and you can steal anything from anywhere in the game. You can even hide your helmet in Crimson Desert to look like a complete burglar. But there are a few repercussions to stealing, as you would expect.

When you steal something, you must evade the specific area (marked in red in the minimap) quickly without anyone seeing you. Otherwise, guards will surround you, and you will either get caught or need to murder them, which will result in committing another crime. However, if you swiftly escape the crime scene, even the alerted guards will go back to their normal positions.

So, it seems like a low-risk, high-reward scenario in our time with the game. Also, remember that when you steal something, your Contribution EXP is automatically deducted. We lost around 5 points while trying to steal a Harvest Stack in a household at Hernand.

How to Pickpocket in Crimson Desert

After wearing a mask, you can even start pickpocketing the NPCs in Crimson Desert. All you need to do is bump into them, and you will see a pickpocket option pop up on screen. Just press the respective button immediately, and this will turn into a crime zone. You need to run away from the scene immediately, just like after you stole an item.

But if you couldn’t, you would be arrested and jailed by the guards. You will lose a certain amount of money, but you will be released from prison soon. Therefore, don’t go out there and steal everything in sight. Instead, we recommend you plan accordingly and steal items in a dire situation where the need arises.

Well, if you don’t want to earn money the wrong way, you can always do quests or even play the fun minigame like Arm Wrestling in Crimson Desert to make some quick cash. That’s everything you need to know about how to steal, as well as how the stealing system works in Crimson Desert.
