Where to Get Bamboo in Minecraft

1. Explore Jungle Biomes

Bamboo growing in a bamboo jungle Minecraft biome

Bamboo in Minecraft naturally only generates inside one type of in-game biomesjungles. Here you’ll find bamboo stalks scattered across the terrain. They are usually pretty tall, so you’ll see them easily. Bamboo generates a lot more inside bamboo jungles, where you’ll find forests of bamboo. The only jungle biome that cannot generate bamboo is the sparse jungle.

Its foliage and plant life are not as dense as inside the regular jungle. You may break bamboo shoots with any item and you’ll still get bamboo. Sword breaks these blocks fastest, but it also costs it double the durability loss.

2. Fish in Jungle Biomes

Another way to find bamboo is to do some fishing inside the jungle biomes. It is one of the junk category items, so the luck of the sea enchantment on the Minecraft fishing rod only makes it harder to get bamboo. This may not seem useful in the normal survival world, but in some popular modes like Skyblock, this can be the only way to find bamboo.

3. Loot Chests

Chests inside jungle temples and shipwrecks can occasionally generate bamboo in Minecraft. So the next time you spot them, hack away!

4. Kill Pandas

This is the cruelest way to get bamboo, as it requires killing the cute panda Minecraft mobs. On Minecraft Java, pandas always drop only one bamboo when killed, while on Bedrock they can drop up to two bamboo. However, do note that looting enchantment increases the bamboo quantity only in the Bedrock edition.

How to Grow Bamboo in Minecraft

Unlike sugar cane in Minecraft, bamboo doesn’t have any specific requirements when it comes to growing it. Instead, you may simply right-click the surface of dirt and grass variants, moss (Java only), gravel, sand, and mud blocks to place bamboo. It’ll first appear as a shoot that doesn’t have a hitbox.

Soon after it’ll grow into a bamboo stalk that you cannot walk through. The top block of the bamboo stalk always needs a light level of 9 or more to grow. This plant can grow up to 12-16 blocks tall and it also grows quite quickly. But if you want to speed up the growth, simply use bone meal on the plant.

Once you’re ready to harvest the bamboo, break the second block off the ground, so the initial bamboo shoot stays so it can regrow. All the bamboo blocks above will get broken instantly and fall in the form of items.

Bamboo Uses in Minecraft

It’s pretty easy to get tons of bamboo in Minecraft once you start growing it. Once you have it, keep reading to see what can you do with bamboo in Minecraft!

Bamboo all on its own is a fantastic decorative block. It has a unique appearance and its height can be manipulated by placing string above the block. Moreover, you may also place bamboo in flower pots for an indoor cozy plant decor.
