Lygus is currently one of the most interesting characters in Honkai Star Rail. He initially appeared as an ally to the Trailblazer, later being revealed as the main mastermind of Amphoreus. Lygus is said to have Emanator levels of strength, which is very suspicious in itself. So, who is Lygus and what are his motivations? To answer your question, I did some intense digging on the Honkai Star Rail lore to bring you everything we know about Lygus in Honkai Star Rail so far.
Who is Lygus in Honkai Star Rail?
Lygus is the main, or one of the, mastermind(s) behind the creation of Amphoreus. He holds the title of Theoros, a member of the Council of Elders in Okhema and the person responsible for witnessing and recording all events in Amphoreus. Lygus is also an Emanator of Erudition, or with nearly equal power, and is the current administrator of Amphoreus. However, things have changed a bit with the Honkai Star Rail 3.4 storyline as we finally see his true motivations.
During the “For the Sun is Set to Die” mission, it becomes clear that Lygus is behind everything that is happening in Amphoreus. It is his objective to make the Eternal Recurrence end. Doing that will release Lord Ravager Irontomb from Amphreus. But to understand his exact motivations, we need a history lesson of Honkai Star Rail’s lore.
Connection Between Lygus and The Aeon of Erudition
If you closely follow the lore of Honkai Star Rail, you would know about The Mechanical Emperor’s War. This was a two part war, first one led by Emperor Rubert I, while the second one was led by his successor Rubert II. The goal of this war was to terminate all organic life in the Honkai Star Rail universe. Thankfully, the war was eventually put to stop by the IPC and other notable factions.
King Rubert II invented a “Scepter system”, which became the main point of contention after the Second Mechanical war.
Scepters are macrocosmic computational arrays beyond mortal comprehension, made to emulate the Aeon of Erudition’s thoughts. Scattered throughout the cosmos, these arrays acted as Celestial-Body Neurons for Nous. The entire Scholar’s Strife internal conflict that came after the Second Mechanical war was about the ownership of this Scepter system.
According to Lygus, the Scepters were forsook by the Erudition. Even though they were forgotten, they never stopped seeking the divine answer — the prime mover of life. Now, one Scepter found the answer to the “prime mover of life” and was reborn into a true “life” through the gaze of another Aeon — Nanook of Destruction. This Scepter is Lord Ravager Irontomb.
During this mission, Lygus revealed that Amphoreus is Irontomb’s endless extrapolation to end the Aeon of Erudition.
The Eternal Land known as ‘Amphoreus’ is nothing more than the Scepter’s endless, lonely Extrapolation. A bottomless well of fury, aimed at the god who cast it aside!
According to Lygus, Amphoreus is nothing more than a deep-learning program made for the Black Tide. Everything born in the world of Amphoreus was programmed to be destroyed by the Black Tide. The endpoint of Amphoreus’s calculations is a perfect equation of Destruction.
So, how does Lygus play into all of this? It is clear that Amphoreus was created by Lord Ravager Irontomb to destroy Erudition, but you are likely wondering what does it have to do with Lygus. The only possible cause for Lygus to be at Amphoreus is that he is either Lord Ravager Irontomb, or one of his lackeys.
Is Lygus Lord Ravager Irontomb in Honkai Star Rail?
The identity of the Lord Ravager Irontomb is the biggest question after the release of Honkai Star Rail 3.4. There is a massive possibility that Phainon is the Lord Ravager Irontomb, or a vessel for it. While on the other hand we have Lygus, who is clearly the mastermind behind Amphoreus.
From what I could deduce, it appears as if Lygus was either appointed by the Lord Ravager as the administrator of Amphoreus or he decided to do it himself. Like the Scepters, Lygus may have deep rooted hatred for the Erudition.
So, he may have been drawn by the immense power of Irontomb and its history, choosing to be its follower. We have already seen that Lord Ravagers do have followers in Honkai Star Rail, so seeing Lygus as a underling for Irontomb isn’t that unbelievable.
However, I am sure that Lygus isn’t the Lord Ravager Irontomb. Although, there is a slight possibility of Lygus being a part of Irontomb, like an apparition made to administer Amphoreus, I personally don’t see it that way.
