Alice in Borderland Season 3 is now available to stream on Netflix. While this season has only 6 episodes, making it the shortest AIB season, it certainly packs the thrill offered by the previous two seasons. The season opens with Arisu and Usagi, who are now married and expecting their first child. Yes, it does sound like the perfect and happy beginning. But, is the ending happy as well? Does Usagi survive in the Alice in Borderland finale?
Is Usagi Dead in Alice in Borderland Season 3?
No, Usagi does not die in Alice in Borderland Season 3. She and Arisu make it out alive from the purgatory called Borderland. In the final episode of Alice in Borderland Season 3, we see that Banda asks Ryuji Matsuyama to kill Usagi in the final game in return for the secrets of the land of the living dead. However, Ryuji changes his mind a the last moment and chooses not to kill Usagi instead.
At the same time, while Arisu is trapped on the other side of the digital screen, we see that the buildings erupt in Borderland, creating a doomsday-like situation with water flowing everywhere. Usagi gets swept away by the water, and Arisu tries to break through the digital screens to help her. Here, he meets Banda, who wants Arisu to stay in Borderland.
However, Arisu refuses and breaks open the digital screen to help Usagi. Meanwhile, Usagi manages to grab onto a broken building to stay afloat, and Arisu jumps into the water to help her. He gets drowned and wakes up in a room with Ann sitting across him. Banda appears in the room and tries to kill Arisu, but Ann saves him and sends him back to the Borderland to save Usagi.
Arisu swims back up from the water and at this moment, Banda appears and points a gun at Arisu. But before he could shoot, Banda was killed by a laser beam. Then, a man presents himself in front of Arisu and asks him to play one final game. This man is none other than the Joker in Alice in Borderland. He reveals that Joker is not a specific person; it is a bridge between life and death.
When Arisu loses in the game, the man gives him two choices: either return to choose death by jumping into the vortex or return to the land of the living and endure pain. Arisu chooses to return to the land of the living with Usagi and jumps into the water to save her.
Meanwhile, Ryuji asks Usagi to go to the land of death together by drowning in the vortex. However, in a change of heart, Ryuji hands over Usagi to Arisu, who saves her ultimately.
Towards the end of Alice in Borderland Season 3, we see Arisu and Usagi deciding the name of their children. Thus, leading to a joyful ending where Arisu and Usagi have survived the deadly games and have returned to living their normal life.
