Daredevil Born Again: This Tiny Easter Egg Confirms Miles Morales in the MCU

In Short
  • Daredevil Born Again teased the existence of Miles Morales by the mention of "Officer Morales" by Matt in court.
  • In Marvel, Miles Morales' father, Jeff Morales, is a police officer in the NYPD, and since this surname has been used in MCU to refer to an NYPD officer, fans think that it is teasing a possible appearance of Miles Morales.
  • However, the appearance of Miles Morales or even Peter Parker in Daredevil: Born Again is highly unlikely because of copyright issues with Sony.

Daredevil Born Again episode 3 has aired today, and the show is bringing new twists and turns. While the initial two episodes introduced us to the White Tiger and how he was falsely implicated in a case of a cop’s murder, in this episode, Matt Murdock brought him to justice. However, in the process, Marvel has just confirmed the existence of the popular Spider-Man character Miles Morales in the MCU.

After Matt Murdock’s prime witness, the man Hector saved from the two police officers, turned away from his original statement and set Hector’s defense ablaze, Matt revealed Hector’s identity as the White Tiger to the court in a desperate attempt to save him from conviction. Even though this revelation to the public posed a major danger to Hector, testimonies from people he had saved helped Matt to rule in favor of Hector Ayala.

While taking testimonies, Matt mentioned several police officers who had documented that the White Tiger had saved them from harm and also caught bad guys. While taking the name, Matt refers to a police officer named “Officer Morales.” This caught the attention of Marvel fans since this reference is directly related to Spider-Man, but not the Peter Parker one. The Spidey I am referencing is Miles Morales, and if you have read his comics or have watched the Spiderverse movies, you’d know that his father’s name is Jeff Morales, who was a police officer in the NYPD.

Fans speculate that the Officer Morales, Matt references in Daredevil: Born Again is none other than Jeff Morales, the father of Miles Morales. Thus confirming the existence of Miles in the MCU. Moreover, using the surname Morales, of a person who works in the NYPD, in Marvel’s New York City, cannot be a mere coincidence. However, it could just be a well-placed easter egg as well.

Can Miles Morales’ Spider-Man Appear in Daredevil: Born Again?

Now, the big question fans have been asking is if Spider-Man will appear in Daredevil: Born Again. This speculation caught flame when Wilson Fisk referenced Spider-Man in one of his speeches, leading fans to think that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man could make a cameo in the show. However, now that a person who could probably be Jeff Morales has been mentioned in episode 3 of Daredevil: Born Again, fans think that the Spidey Fisk mentioned is none other than the Miles Morales’ version of Spider-Man.

However, the appearance of Spider-Man in Daredevil: Born Again, be it Peter Parker or Miles Morales, is highly unlikely since Spider-Man’s IP is owned by Sony, and Marvel can only use Spider-Man for movies and animation, which has been cleared before by Brad Winderbaum. This is also the reason why Spider-Man has not directly been mentioned yet in Daredevil: Born Again since it would be copyright infringement. With that being said, there is no chance that Spider-Man, be it Parker or Morales, will not appear in Daredevil: Born Again.

Miles Morales Has Previously Been Confirmed to Exist in the MCU

If you think that this is the first time we have heard a reference confirming Miles Morales in the MCU, let me brush some dust off your memory and remind you that it has been done previously as well. In Spider-Man: Homecoming, we were introduced to Aron Davis, who was interrogated by Spider-Man. If you have watched the Spiderverse movies, you’d know that Aaron Davis is the uncle of Miles Morales, who later becomes a supervillain named The Prowler. During his interaction, he also mentions to Spider-Man that he has a “Nephew to take care of,” further confirming that Miles does exist in the MCU.

Later on, we see the MCU version of Aaron Davis appear in Across The Spiderverse, where we see him in his Prowler costume, and since it was the same actor, Donald Glover, it was pretty much obvious that he is none other than the MCU version of Aaron Davis.

Now that Matt Murdock has also mentioned Officer Morales in Daredevil Born Again, fans think that a team-up of either version of Spider-Man and Daredevil is not that far away. So, let’s wait and see when we get to see it happen, and till then, stay tuned with us for more updates!
