10 Black Myth Wukong Tips and Tricks You Should Know

Black Myth: Wukong has taken the gaming community by storm, surpassing the highest player count of Elden Ring on Steam just a few hours after release. The game is extremely well made while being highly challenging, having both similarities and distinct differences from a traditional Souls-like.

The game has barely any hand-holding, so new players can often find themselves wondering what to do or how to effectively use their skills. Here I have prepared a list of the best Black Myth Wukong Tips and Tricks, so you can quickly understand the fundamentals and enjoy the game.

1. Dying Has No Penalty

Black Myth: Wukong is a hard game and that means a lot of death and unless you are an ultra-pro gamer, you’ll have trouble. However, unlike traditional Souls-like, Black Myth: Wukong doesn’t have any penalty for death, like losing souls or dropping items. Instead, you simply go back to the last shrine you rested. So, you can simply retry the challenge without panicking about retrieving your items.

2. Abuse the Immobilize Spell

The Immobilize Spell is the first unlocked spell in the Black Myth: Wukong, and it is extremely overpowered. So, the only correct way of using it is absolutely abusing it in every single boss fight. The Immobilize Spell completely freezes any enemy, including bosses, and basically allows free hits for a short period of time.

You can further increase this spell’s efficiency using Sparks, which I will highly recommend. Also, when fighting difficult bosses, simply stay back and wait for the Immobilization Spell to cool down and abuse it to deal free damage.

3. Prioritize Dodging Attacks

Dodging is a big part of the gameplay in Souls-likes, but it is even more important in Black Myth: Wukong especially with the addition of perfect dodging. When you dodge attacks perfectly, it gives a brief window to damage the enemy and deal increased stagger damage.

In Black Myth: Wukong, most bosses have long attack chains, and these attack chains deal a ton of damage. It’s best that you prioritize dodging the attack chains and then attack after their combo finishes.

4. Increase your Health

Black Myth Wukong is a hard game with many bosses dealing a ton of damage. Although dodging should be prioritized, new players won’t have it easy initially. This is where increasing the maximum health of your character becomes useful.

Health is one of the major stats I always recommend investing in Souls-like games, and it also applies to Black Myth Wukong. You can increase health by investing Sparks in the Robust Constitution node in the Survival skill tree.

5. Watch Your Stamina Consumption

Stamina plays a major role during combat in Black Myth Wukong. From swinging your weapon, dodge-rolling, sprinting, and jumping, everything consumes stamina. When your stamina bar reaches zero, your character cannot dodge roll enemy attacks, which can be a massive setback during boss fights.

This is why you need to always keep an eye on your Stamina bar, especially while attacking. Using heavy attacks consumes a lot of stamina, which makes it harder to dodge bosses if they start one of their attack chains. You can increase stamina and even decrease stamina consumption by dodging and sprinting from the skill tree.

6. Transform When Your Health Is Low

Black Myth Wukong has many cool new abilities unfamiliar in the Souls-like genre. One such ability is Transformation, which allows the main character to transform into another being and use their attacks for a limited time.

The best part about transformation is that the transformed body uses a different health bar. So, when you are out of heals and in a pinch against a boss, simply transform to get a completely new health bar and deal substantial damage against the boss without worrying about dying.

7. Buy Items from the Shrine Store

One of the coolest features of Black Myth: Wukong is the addition of Stores at the checkpoints. Players can directly access the Store and buy items from the Shrine. Although the items in the Shrine Stores initially look useless, an in-depth observation says otherwise.

The store sells the Evil Repelling Medicament, Body-Cooling Powder, and Anti-miasma powder, which can be very useful early on in the game. Evil Repelling Medicament increases damage reduction, while the other two items cure Burning and Poison. Some of the bosses apply burn and poison with their attacks, so these items become quite useful during those fights.

8. Reallocate your Skill Points

Worried about incorrectly investing your Sparks or Skill Points in Black Myth: Wukong? You don’t need to as you can easily reignite the Sparks, or reallocate the skill points in this game. This makes it much easier to experiment with different builds without worrying about ruining your playthrough.

I have changed my Skill points multiple times based on the bosses in the game. Using the correct Skill Points against different bosses can decrease the difficulty by a lot, allowing you to easily head into the next section.

9. Defeat Glowing Elites to Acquire Spirit Skills

In Black Myth: Wukong, you will occasionally come across glowing enemies. These elite enemies will drop a blue flame on defeat, which can be used as Spirit skills. The Spirit Skills basically allow the main character to transform and perform various attacks of the equipped spirit.

One of the early Spirits you will find is the Wandering Wight early in the game. So do ensure you defeat the glowing elites as you see them.

10. Unlock Stances Early

Stances can be unlocked in the Skill tree and they become very useful in combat. Stances in Black Myth Wukong are very similar to stances from Ghost of Tsushima, basically giving a different set of attack combos with their own quirks.

There are three stances in the game — Smash, Pillar, and Thrust. Unlocking each of these stances early on in the game will give a lot more options while fighting bosses. So be sure to unlock them as soon as you can and use them.

So, these are the best Black Myth Wukong tips and tricks from us. Following all the above tips will make your early game experience much smoother.
