  • Release Date: January 15, 2019
  • Developer(s): Pathea Games

Much like Stardew Valley, My Time at Portia offers players a delightful and immersive world called Portia in which you are tasked with restoring your Pa’s neglected workshop, and in order to do that, you have to fulfill commissions, grow crops, and raise animals.

The game might seem like a bit of a grind at first, but I can assure you that once you get into it, you won’t feel like letting go. The land of Portia also has a rich community and you can befriend all of its residents to help you in your quest. Depending on your play style, you also get the option to level up your character and experiment.

Official Screenshot
  • Release Date: November 2, 2023

My Time at Sandrock is fairly similar to My Time at Portia, as it was made by the same developer studio. This game’s story starts in the desert community of Sandrock, where your goal is to help restore Sandrock’s beauty by first turning your run-down workshop into a successful production facility.

You can collect resources, construct machines, rebuild the wild city-state, and befriend and defend the locals from lurking dangers. The surrounding area provides lots of exploration adventures and rare things to find. If you played both Stardew and My Time at Portia, then this game is next in the line.

  • Platform(s): Windows, macOS, Nintendo Switch, Linux

Moonstone Island is a very unique life-sim game set in a large procedurally generated open world. This game is truly unforgettable thanks to its absolutely adorable and warm pixel art-style graphics.

The gameplay revolves around exploring different islands, discovering dungeons, leveling up your character’s skills, taming wild spirits, making friends with the island’s residents, and more. There is also a card-based combat system necessary for completing your Alchemy training.

11. Don’t Starve Together

Official Screenshot
  • Release Date: April 21, 2016
  • Developer(s): Klei Entertainment
  • Platform(s): Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, Linux, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, GeForce Now

Don’t Starve Together, the sequel to the popular survival game Don’t Starve, is another great Stardew Valley alternative that doesn’t have the same chirpy vibe. The game is a stark contrast to Stardew Valley, right from the dull and drab world to the condition of its residents.

Much like its predecessor, the game is an adventure survival title in which you have to do whatever it takes to survive as long as possible. Explore the environment, gather resources, craft items, and develop structures, to survive in the wretched lands.

12. Graveyard Keeper

Official Screenshot
  • Release Date: August 15, 2018
  • Developer(s): Lazy Bear Games, Magic Cat
  • Platform(s): Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, Xbox One, Linux

For the folks who have a penchant for farming and also like to take control of cemeteries in reel life, Graveyard Keeper appears to be a great choice. As you may have already guessed, in this game you have accepted the role of someone who has the responsibility of taking care of a medieval cemetery.

In short, it’s all about increasing profits as high as possible through farming and taking control of the medieval cemetery. It’s how you balance between the two will show how far you will go in the game.

Along the way, the game offers plenty of opportunities to gather materials and craft new items that look in line with what Stardew Valley has to offer. One of my favorite features of this game is the ability to explore mysterious dungeons where it’s really fun to discover alchemy ingredients.

13. Echoes of the Plum Grove

Official Screenshot
  • Release Date: April 29, 2024
  • Developer(s): Unwound Games, Freedom Games LLC
  • Platform(s): Windows

Echoes of the Plum Grove is a very successful indie game with a rather unique game art perspective, similar to Don’t Starve. You can meet, get to know, and befriend the townsfolks, start and maintain your crop garden, fish, cook, craft, and affect Honeywood and the entire island with your decisions.

In addition, this game also has survival aspects, as it’ll be necessary to prepare for the cold and dangerous winter season. Your family tree is of great importance, as you can start a family and eventually play as a different character once your original one is no longer present.

14. Pathless Woods

Official Screenshot
  • Release Date: April 3, 2024
  • Developer(s): AniYa Games Studio
  • Platform(s): Windows

Pathless Woods is a cozy, open-world survival game inspired by ancient China. The game’s appearance is warm, sweet, and simply gorgeous. Farming is one of the main features, alongside cooking, gathering resources, and building your dream home.

Many other creatures share the world with you, some of which you will even have to fight and defeat. The game encourages a co-op experience, so you and your friends have entertaining adventures together.

15. Dinkum

Official Screenshot
  • Release Date: July 14, 2022
  • Developer(s): James Bendon
  • Platform(s): Windows

The last entry on our list is Dinkum, which is some sort of a cross between Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing. The game is set in the Australian wilderness, where you can explore the fascinating terrain, meet cute animals, gather resources, and build your very own town.

No game on this list is complete without the farming feature, and luckily Dinkum is no exception. Not only that, but you can also catch bugs, form friendships with the neighbors, dive deep into underground caves thereby making it one of the best games like Stardew Valley.

I think this is a bit outdated. I own alot of these games and can confirm My Time at Portia, Moonlighter, Slime Rancher, Don’t Starve, and Farm Together are ALL available on the Xbox One and have been available on Xbox One since these games all first launched. In this article you have them as only being available on Playstation 4 and not on Xbox. You may want to edit.
