Very recently, Vivo rolled out Funtouch OS 15, making it the very first OEM to adopt Android 15, even ahead of Google and Samsung. And, we have been able to get the new OS on our Vivo X100 Pro, thereby letting us use all the new features. So, we have handpicked and compiled a list of the best Funtouch OS 15 features. If you own a Vivo or iQOO phone, this will certainly give you a good idea of what to look forward to. Let’s begin!
1. Video Wallpaper
Funtouch OS 15 now lets you turn videos into home screen and lock screen wallpapers. When heading into the Wallpapers section on the preloaded Themes app, there’s a new gallery icon at the top right, which makes setting local images as wallpapers easier. Moreover, videos will also show up here to be made use of.
Once you select a video, you can crop and trim it to your liking and then set it as either your wallpaper. It doesn’t play the entire video and just a snippet of it, so that cropping tool is good to have. This is a very thoughtful way of making those memories come to life and keep them a glimpse away. Easily, one of the best Funtouch OS 15 features, which other OEMs should also bring to their respective skins.
2. UI Icon Customizations and More
With Funtouch OS 15, the skin is more customizable now than ever before. Alongside the Video Wallpaper feature, the new OS version lets you further customize the icon size and shape. Additionally, you can also hide the icon names, making them look cleaner. Users also have the option to choose between a Minimal and Exquisite icon styles.
This is quite the relief since, when compared to competition, Funtouch OS’ UI icons have always felt dull and off-putting. So, this is definitely a much-welcome feature, although seemingly iOS-inspired. Further, Funtouch OS 15 also sees the addition of two new Always-On Display designs as well as four new in-display fingerprint animations.
You can also further enhance the AOD’s look by choosing from a lot of font styles, adjusting the font-weight as well as choosing the font color of the details.
3. More Intuitive Screen Recording
Funtouch OS’ S-Capture, aka the native screen recording tool, has been pretty basic until now. Previously, once a screen recording was started, you could only pause or end it from the UI overlay. With Funtouch OS 15, screen recording UI is now smarter.
In addition to pausing and ending the recording, users can also control system and microphone sounds straight from here. Moreover, it also lets you put text annotations to use, in case you want to get extra creative with it. While it’s not much, more control is better than no control, making this quite a useful Funtouch OS 15 to note.
4. Link to Windows
Vivo has officially joined the “Link to Windows” league alongside Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme. The functionality is now integrated within Funtouch OS 15 and can be accessed via quick settings. For those unaware, Windows PCs come with the Phone Link app right out of the box. So, using Link to Windows on your phone, you can easily pair your phone and PC to create your very own Android-Windows ecosystem of sorts.
From notification and content synchronization to screen mirroring and easy data sharing, it’s easily one of the best Funtouch OS 15 features. Not to mention that if you own a Windows PC, you will understandably be using this a lot.
5. Improved Ultra Game Mode
Funtouch OS 15 tidies up its Ultra Game Mode big time, with all the options and settings being nicely categorized. The changes have been made on the Game Mode overlay, with two new Game tools and Performance panel sections, which lists all the options.
Additionally, in Game tools, users will find a new “Display in small window” setting, tapping on which instantly displays the game in a small overlay window. This comes in super handy during those times when you don’t want to exit an active match but have texts or something else to attend to. While you can spot the feature on Funtouch OS 14 as well, it will be locked. Definitely a nifty little Funtouch OS 15 feature to take advantage of.
6. AI Image Lab
It’s good to see Vivo not bombarding Funtouch OS 15 with AI features. Instead, there’s the subtle addition of an AI Image Lab, which jumps into action when you head into the editing menu of an image. Here, you will see a new Repair section listed in the bottom panel. Navigating to this section lets you make use of the new AI Photo Enhance feature.
This automatically adjusts colors, shadows, and highlights to enhance images and make them more post-worthy. The new AI Image Lab also kicks in when you head into the camera and use the integrated document scanner. When images have shadows, the document scanner effectively gets rid of them, making them all completely usable. Although, in our testing, we found this feature on our iQOO 12 running on Funtouch OS 14 as well.
7. Priority Scheduling
Android phones use something called the Fair Share algorithm to ensure that all the foreground tasks running on your phone get equal power. For this, it divides the CPU load efficiently between all those tasks. For example, efficient management of apps during the split screen, floating windows, or other multitasking scenarios.
Now, Vivo is ditching that very standard for its proprietary Priority Scheduling algorithm, which further enhances this system. While it’s not easy to determine or notice the improvement in real life, Vivo claims a, “15% increase in average app startup speed, even under overload scenarios.” Also, don’t go looking for it in settings. It works automatically in the background.
Alongside this, Vivo has also introduced Memory Enhancement Technology to further optimize zRAM compression and efficiently handle opened tasks. This can lead to better RAM management on the devices. Vivo states that “it reduces GPU memory consumption for background applications, enabling users to run multiple apps simultaneously without compromising the device’s smoothness.”
8. Screen Translation
In this day and age, screen translation is a feature that every phone should have. And, well, Funtouch OS 15 brings that to Vivo and iQOO devices, thanks to an addition to the sidebar. With a single left swipe from the side, you can summon the sidebar and get to Screen Translation, listed under Convenient tools.
In just a few seconds, the tool translates webpages for you in the language of your choice. There are a lot of options available, from Afrikaans to even Zulu. It works exactly like OxygenOS’ Screen translate feature, which is also accessed via the Smart Sidebar.
And, that brings us to the end of this list. Funtouch OS has always lagged behind in terms of features and aesthetics. So, if you’re wondering whether it will come to your Vivo or iQOO phone as well, take a look at our dedicated list of Funtouch OS 15 supported devices.
While Funtouch OS 15 isn’t exceptional, it’s safe to say that it definitely enhances the look and feel of the UI. My favorite has to be the Video Wallpaper and UI icon customization options. What about you? Drop your thoughts in the comments down below!
