12 Best Fallout 4 Weapons (Ranked)

Let’s be honest, the wasteland is a rigid and dangerous place with threats around every corner. This naturally means you will need the best Fallout 4 weapons at your disposal. However, not every Fallout gun is as capable. So if you’re a fellow vault dweller who wants an edge, keep reading as I rank down the best Fallout 4 weapons right here.

12. 2076 World Series Baseball Bat

Base Damage: 16
Weight: 3

I made a unique choice: If I am making the best Fallout 4 weapons list, I might as well add some rather funny choices. And the 2076 World Series Baseball Bat is a perfect fit for this list! It is a baseball bat that deals melee damage to your enemies. There’s not much going for it, except this one small effect where it can send your enemies flying.

The 2076 World Series Baseball Bat has some upgrade and mod options, which allow you to improve it further. If you head to the Jamaica Plain Town Hall basement, you’ll find this weapon on the right side of the Treasure exhibit.

11. Overseer’s Guardian

Base Damage: 55
Weight: 15.7

The Overseer’s Guardian is a short or long-barreled combat rifle randomly generating either of the two variants in Fallout 4. The weapon has a two-shot effect, which shoots an additional bullet per shot. This extra shot doesn’t count toward the gun’s ammo count. It also has a piercing automatic receiver, recoil-compensating stock, and night-vision scope, making it an all-around good weapon.

When you visit the place, you can buy it from the vendor Alexis Combes in Vault 81 of Fallout 4. Unfortunately, Overseer’s Guardian isn’t sold in any other place in-game, which makes sense if you think about it from its naming context.

10. Fat Man

Base Damage: 18+450 explosive damage
Weight: 30.7

Ah, yes, Fat Man. The gun that single-handedly created one of the funniest memes in Fallout 4 history where you use the firearm using V.A.T.S. and see the chaos unfold. This is a portable mini-nuke launcher that launches, well, nuclear bombs. I can say that if you find a MIRV launcher and modify Fat Man with it, congratulations! You’ve created a gun that shoots six mini-nukes in a cluster which automatically makes it one of the best Fallout 4 weapons.

There are various ways to get a Fat Man in Fallout 4. You can find one when you are inside the ArcJet systems. One resides in Cabot House, in the basement. You can find one in Lexington and Salem. The game has various points to pick up a Fat Boy, so don’t fret.

9. Gauss Rifle

Base Damage: 110
Weight: 15.7

Another signature Fallout 4 weapon, the Gauss Rifle, is a high-damage power rifle in Fallout 4 that comes with some inaccuracies when fired, thanks to its standard scope. However, modifying it makes it one of the best power weapons in Fallout 4. The special-effects shot lets it make a powerful explosion on impact and with a better Rifleman perk, it can shred almost any Power Armor.

You can find up to five Gauss Rifles in Skylanes Flight 1981 and Skylanes Flight 1665 in Fallout 4. Additionally, you can steal one from Teagan’s shop on the Prydwen. Sometimes, even Super Mutant Warlords at higher levels carry the gun.

8. Problem Solver

Base Damage: 57
Weight: 21.6

A unique handmade rifle, the Problem Solver is a rather colorful weapon for the bleak wasteland of Fallout 4. However, I think that colorfulness comes from the fact that using this gun will make you feel empowered and happy. This gun has a furious legendary effect, increasing the weapon’s damage with each subsequent round. And that is a deadly property when your gun comes with 92% accuracy in-game.

Getting this weapon can be more challenging for players who never focus on making their sole survivor have charisma. You must talk with Mason in the “An Ambitious Plan” mission and pass the dialog and charisma checks. Successfully doing both will reward you with this gun. If you fail the charisma check, say goodbye to your chances of getting one of the best Fallout 4 weapons.

7. Cryolator

Base Damage: 20 cold damage
Weight: 13.2

A gun developed by the Vault 111 Overseer, the Cryolator, is a cryogenic gun that can cast cold damage close to medium distance. Think of it as a flamethrower. Except you aren’t throwing flames but rather ice. Since this is a D.I.Y., getting its ammo gets extremely difficult, so using it is a trade-off when you want to use it.

You will find this gun inside the Overseer’s office in a display case at Vault 111. Of course, you won’t be able to get it at the beginning of the game, as you need master-level lock-picking. However, once you have the stats, you can return to the vault and get this weapon for yourself later.

6. Final Judgment

Base Damage: 14
Weight: 19.3

A Gatling laser gun, Final Judgment has the looks and design identity seen in most laser guns in Fallout 4. However, it also happens to be one of the best laser guns in Fallout 4, solely because a) it is a Gatling laser gun, and b) it is incredible! It has a rapid legendary effect, dealing 26 damage per shot at a high fire rate.

Unfortunately, this weapon is used by Arthur Maxson, the leader of the East Coast chapter of Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout 4. Fortunately, the game pitches you quite a few times against each other in quests Precipice of War and Rocket’s Red Glare.

5. Deliverer

Base Damage: 25
Weight: 4.4

A silenced pre-war weapon, the Deliver is a standard semi-auto 10mm pistol with a silencer attached to it. It is also one of the best handguns in-game, outperforming any modified 10mm pistols. And, you get the V.A.T.S. Enhanced legendary effect, with increased V.A.T.S. hit chance and 25% lower action cost.

The gun also comes with a short recoil but a shorter range because of the default suppressor. Regardless, you can’t get a better side arm than this in Fallout 4 until you track down some of the better laser pistols.

Getting Deliverer in Fallout 4 requires you to start the questline Tradecraft. This begins immediately after you complete the Road to Freedom quest line and head to the Railroad H.Q. After you find the dead body of Tommy Whispers, the Deacon will reward you with the handgun I consider one of the best Fallout 4 weapons.

4. Righteous Authority

Base Damage: 26
Weight: 5.5

Another popular weapon, Righteous Authority, is a standard laser rifle in Fallout 4, modified by Danse, a Paladin from the Brotherhood of Steel. Its lucky modifier allows you to deliver double damage for critical attacks. Furthermore, your critical meter also fills faster when using V.A.T.S. It has several variants throughout the wasteland.

Righteous Authority is given to you by Paladin Danse after you complete the questline Call to Arms. This involves you visiting the ArcJet Systems and completing the questline. Alternatively, if you complete any main questline of a faction, you can get this weapon from Danse when you meet him.

3. Experiment 18-A

Base Damage: 24+24 electric
Weight: 6.6

Ah yes, time to talk about the top three Fallout 4 weapons. Experiment 18-A is one of the signature weapons in Fallout 4, fitting its design aesthetics. Chances are, you’ve probably also seen some cosplayer running around with a replica of this weapon.

It is an automatic Plasma rifle that has a rapid, legendary effect. This means the gun has a 25% faster firing rate and 15% faster reload. So, if you love high D.P.S., this is your gun. And you have a lot of modification choices for this gun.

Experiment 18-A is only purchasable after you reach The Institute, a late-game area where the story eventually takes you. Once there, talk with the Institute synth requisition officer to get this weapon from him.

2. Pickman’s Blade

Base Damage: 15
Weight: 1

One of the two melee weapons in this list that I consider the best in Fallout 4, Pickman’s Blade, is a combat knife with a wounding effect. So, enemies getting stabbed by it will get a 25-point bleed damage. It also has a stealth blade mod that allows you to damage with an additional sneak attack and 10 points of bleed damage. So all the sneak-loving players will get something to enjoy.

This weapon requires you to explore Pickman’s Gallery, a serial killer’s hideout. It is inside a safe hidden behind a painting in the gallery, “Picnic for Stanley,” found in a room immediately left from the main door. After you rescue Pickman, he’ll give you the key to the safe as a token of thanks. Alternatively, you can just let him die and loot the key off of him.

1. Combat Shotgun

Base Damage: 50
Weight: 7

I know some might be surprised by me picking a Combat Shotgun as the best Fallout 4 weapon. And that is entirely justified. However, Combat Shotgun is a random drop that you will feel blessed by.

The gun has eight barrels and can be upgraded with a 32-round drum. While the default gun packs a punch, you can upgrade it to a fully automatic weapon. And I don’t think I have to elaborate on how amazing that will be. You can get this shotgun randomly from your encounters or at merchants.

And these are the best Fallout 4 weapons that I feel you should get. Of course, these are subjective. Once you’re done here, check out the best Fallout games to diversify. Do you have a Fallout 4 weapon you consider to be the best? Let us know in the comments below!
