Anime fans are some of the luckiest fandoms in the world, as they are gifted with a massive playlist of anime opening songs every year. Now, 2024 was yet another special year in this case as countless banger tracks made us sit through the openings of popular and new anime. Be it for jamming with friends or for memes, 2024 bestowed upon us a ton of anime opening songs. So today, I am here to share the list of anime openings that ruled my playlist in 2024.
10. “Same Blue” by Official Hige Dandism – Blue Box
Official Hige Dandism was the musical mastermind behind the iconic opening of Tokyo Revengers – “Cry Baby.” They have returned with another fantastic song, called Ao no Hako, this time for the sports x romcom anime Blue Box.
The beautiful song perfectly fits the alluring visuals of the routine of the anime characters, making it one of the special anime openings this year. Blue Box is a wonderful blend of sports and romance drama that completely engrossed me this year. It has already become one of my favorite romances, and I highly recommend you check it out in case you haven’t.
9. “Fatale” by GEMN – Oshi no Ko Season 2
The opening 1 of Oshi no Ko – Idol by Yoasobi, was a chartbuster song that dominated everyone’s playlist last year. The anime returned with a second season this year and its opening song “Fatale” was performed by GEMN.
The artist has worked on JJK season 2 opening 1 and Go Go Loser Ranger before this. While Fatale isn’t at the same level as Idol, it is an impressive song that works well with Doga Kobo’s remarkable animation quality and highlights the events of the new season.
8. “Abyss” by YUNGBLUD – Kaiju No. 8
Kaiju No. 8 is one of the frontrunners in the new generation of Shonen anime that debuted in the first half of 2024. Unlike other songs on this list, the opening of Kaiju No.8 has been composed by the renowned English artist, YUNGBLUD.
The 3D-rendered visuals of the evolution of the kaijus amidst the Greater Tokyo city together with the awesome English song from YUNGBLUD made it a unique opening in 2024.
7. “Absolute Zero” by Natori – Wind Breaker
Wind Breaker is the anime that surprised me the most with its delinquent drama. I found it better than Tokyo Revengers (and here are five reasons why Wind Breaker is better). The popular J-Pop artist, Natori, lent his voice to the opening, and I couldn’t be happier as he is one of my favorites as well (Overdose and Sarushibai FTW).
Wind Breaker is also one of the best visually appealing anime of this year, and its opening visuals featuring the delinquent characters are on point with Natori’s vibe material.
6. “Mugen” by My First Story and Hyde – Demon Slayer: To the Hashira Training
Do I need to talk about the astounding quality of the Demon Slayer anime? It’s already a well-known fact, right? Well, it’s not only the animation quality; they don’t miss out on the anime openings front as well. Ufotable has presented the fans with incredible songs throughout every season.
This year, Demon Slayer anime returned with the season 4 — Hashira Training arc. My First Story collaborated with Hyde to treat Demon Slayer fans with another addictive opening song in 2024.
5. “Haru” by Yorushika – Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End became the highest-rated anime of all time on MAL after it aired last year. It aired in two separate cours and, as a result, it featured two marvelous opening songs.
Since we are only talking about the best openings in 2024, I have to mention the second opening song – Haru by Yorushika in this list. Although it didn’t end up being a blockbuster like the first opening by Yoasobi, it was still a lovely song introducing the expanded cast of Frieren in the second cour.
4. “LEveL” by Hiroyuki Sawano and TXT – Solo Leveling Season 1
Solo Leveling (review) was one of the best action anime that came out in 2024. The success of this manhwa adaptation came from outstanding visuals and remaining faithful to the source material.
Hiroyuki Sawano, the legendary composer of AOT, teamed up with the popular South Korean boy band, Tomorrow X Together, to bring fans the perfect opening for Solo Leveling’s debut season. It surely delivered the level-up feel in sync with the visuals of Sung Jin-woo’s ascendance as the new Shadow Monarch.
3. “Shikairo Days” by Megumi Han, Saki Fujita, and Co – My Deer Friend Nokotan
Ahem! I couldn’t stop myself from listening to Shikairo Days, the viral hit anime opening song of 2024. This song sprawled everywhere as countless memes on social media (this is the best meme out of all).
The voice actors of My Deer Friend Nokotan, namely Megumi Han, Saki Fujita, Rui Tanabe, and Fūka Izumi came together to lend their voices to this opening song. The goofy visuals and catchy lyrics perfectly hooked the anime fandom to listen to it non-stop as a guilty pleasure song.
2. “Otonoke” by Creepy Nuts – Dandadan
Never in my dreams would I have thought that a band named Creepy Nuts would gift fans with two record-breaking anime openings in the same year. The duo recently broke records and attracted the fandom with the irresistible opening of Dandadan – Otonoke.
Dandadan has become a cult hit in the anime community right now. This tune flawlessly captures the unique supernatural and humorous vibe of the show. This is the newest addition to my playlist and not a day goes by without listening to it.
1. “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born” by Creepy Nuts – Mashle: Magic and Muscles
Mashle: Magic and Muscles Season 2 kicked off 2024 in a banger way with the Bling-Bang-Bang-Born opening song. The opening track for the second season was a breakout anthem for the anime community right from the start of the year. The iconic dance move featured in this song made it a sensation among TikTok and Instagram Reel enthusiasts.
To be honest, this opening brought in tons of new fans to the series, and they can finally witness the cool antics of the creampuff-addict Mash. No other anime opening, except for Otonoke by the same band, comes close to this smash hit I’ve been obsessing over this year.
These are my favorite picks for the best anime openings of 2024. This year was a momentous one for anime fans.
