The story of Arcane has come to a close with Season 2, but it will be the talk of the town for several days to come. It was an incredible experience that we can’t get out of our minds. However, with the show’s conclusion comes a question – were the events in the Arcane TV show canon to League of Legends? Well, if you are asking yourself the same question, here’s the answer.
Arcane Is Indeed Canon to the League of Legends Lore
Initially, the creators of the animated TV series were reluctant to confirm this, but later, Riot Games did announce that everything that happens in Arcane is canon to the League of Legends lore. In a Twitter post back in 2023, Riot officially announced that Arcane is officially canon to the League of Legends universe. A riot official also confirmed the same in response to a Reddit post.
Previously, the creators said that the show followed its own continuity, but they decided to go in a different direction for some reason.
What this means is the characters we see in League of Legends (and other games based in the world of Runeterra) are the same characters we see in Arcane. It’s the same Jinx, Vi, Caitlyn, and Warwick. League of Legends, for those unaware, is a PvP experience where two teams of five fight each other as Champions, and there’s no narrative element in the fights.
There’s League of Legends lore that you can read online, and, of course, that’s official as well. But, Arcane takes a deeper dive and focuses on a smaller group of characters. Instead of telling the story of the whole Runeterra, it sheds light on only two regions, Piltover and Zaun.
Arcane Being Canon Brings Interesting Opportunities For the Next LoL Show
Making Arcane canon to League of Legends is an exciting and smart move. Runeterra is a massive universe that consists of several cities. Of course, events that unfold in Piltover and Zaun were significant, but in the League of Legends lore, every city in Runeterra has its own version of heroes and villains.
Since Riot has made Arcane canon to LoL, we might see any other city from Runeterra next – it could be any one of Noxus (where Black Rose Order is from), Demacia, Targon, Ionia, Ixtal, or Bandle City.
While there are chances that Riot Games will now move toward Noxus and the threat of Black Rose in the spin-off LoL series, it’s also true that the world of Runeterra has much bigger threats than Black Rose. Honesty, fans would love to see the story of Lux getting a TV makeover, but it’s hard to say which character Riot will target next.
In fact, the speculation as to which character will be the next focus exists because Arcane is canon to League of Legends. Now, League of Legends fans can connect the dots better after watching Arcane. For instance, after watching Arcane, it makes sense why Cait and Vi were always featured together in League of Legends’ music videos.
Like that, every easter egg in Arcane can lead to bigger things, and we can’t wait for it. If all goes well, and Riot gives us multiple canon shows around LoL, we might see characters from different shows coming together to fight a bigger threat.
