There is no doubt that 2024 has turned out to be a marvelous year for gaming. This year saw the release of juggernaut titles such as Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Black Myth Wukong, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and more. Therefore, the race for the ultimate game of the year 2024 became more heated than ever before. In the end, Astro Bot, the one game unitedly treasured by all gamers, took home the Game of the Year award.
The result may seem extremely unfair to some gamers, but I am here to champion Team ASOBI’s Astro Bot and discuss why it truly deserves the GOTY title in 2024.
The contenders for Game of the Year 2024 largely included different kinds of RPGs such as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, and Black Myth Wukong. Each of these games cemented their names in history by immersing the gamers in their rich worlds with detailed characters.
Thus, naturally, RPG fans would’ve settled with any of these games clinching the GOTY. However, to everyone’s surprise, our adorable and bouncy bot jumped all the way up and cleared those hardcore RPG game’s levels to grab the “Game of the Year” award at The Game Awards 2024 hosted by Geoff Keighley.
I’ve played all of the GOTY nominees, except FF VII Rebirth, this year. Sure, the variety of emotions, the adrenaline rush of combat, the awe of exploring, and such that comes with playing these RPGs is unmatched. However, I have to say that the delight, the sense of pure joy, and the wholesomeness I got out of playing Astro Bot was truly unmatched and unforgettable.
Astro Bot may feature a simple tale, yet it is a gleeful game that absolutely nailed all the aspects of a platformer. It became the highest-rated standalone game of 2024 for a reason, right? Team ASOBI redefined the modern 3D platforming experience with the vibrant adventures of Astro Bot.
If you have read my Astro Bot review, you must be already aware of how this game is an elated love letter and a rich celebration of Play Station’s legacy. This videogame has the outright power and quality to challenge your perception of platformer games and it will make you say it duly earned the GOTY 2024 once you take Astro Bot for a spin.
I have to admit that I was also one of the persons who was initially skeptical of PlayStation’s mascot getting his own standalone game. I mean, I thought Astro’s Playroom was plenty for one already and wondered if there was ever a need for one more round with the robot. However, while reviewing the game, I delved deep into the amusing universe of Astro Bot and admitted, “Oh boy, I was so wrong about this game.”
Now, I’m sure the gamers who haven’t tasted the sweet joys of Astro Bot yet will agree with me once they get their hands on this PlayStation title. So, congratulations on your well-deserved award and success, Team ASOBI. I’m indebted to you for pulling me back into the world of platformers.
After winning the GOTY award, many more players will join Astro Bot on his difficult and joyous platforming journey. I hope everyone reading this gets to play this comfort game and experience the heartwarming and serene adventure it offers. And Team ASOBI, please keep coming with more Astro Bot adventures. Having said that, what do you think about Astro Bot winning the Game of the Year 2024 award? Let us know in the comments below.
