The first trailer for X-Men ’97 Season 2 was shown to a select few at New York Comic Con, but it has not been released online for fans yet. However, multiple media houses have reported what was seen in the trailer, and it looks like the upcoming season is going to be quite interesting. First off, the series picks up exactly where Season 1 ended. The trailer shows us that Bishop brings back Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, and Jubilee to their time after they had travelled to a distant time.

Moreover, this time around, Apocalypse was introduced in the trailer, and it appears that he will be the villain in X-Men ’97 Season 2. We also got the first look at his comic-book-accurate purple get-up, something that has not been done in quite some time.

What Is the Cast of X-Men ’97 Season 2?

As of now, there is not a lot of information about new casting for X-Men ’97 Season 2, but we can make a calculated guess about who will return in the upcoming seasons of the animated show. Most of the cast working on X-Men ’97 are veterans of the original animated X-Men Series; however, some of them are voicing different characters than they did originally. So, let’s take a look at the cast members who can return this time around in X-Men ’97 Season 2-

  • Ray Chase – Scott Summers (Cyclops)
  • Jennifer Hale – Jean Grey (Phoenix)

What Could be the Plot of X-Men ’97 Season 2?

When it comes to plot, X-Men ’97 Season 1 left a lot of loose ends on which it can operate. First off, Jean and Scott were sent to a distant future where they meet a teenage cable and a woman named Mother Askani. Following this, it was revealed that Forge was the last “X-Man” left on Earth. On the other hand, Cable, Sunspot, and Jubilee, even though alive, are missing.

We see Bishop return. A post-credit scene shows us the destroyed Genosha, where Apocalypse lifts Gambit’s playing card from the dirt, and finally, we see a character introduce himself as En Sbah Nur to the X-Men trapped in ancient Egypt, and if you can’t pinpoint exactly where you’ve heard that name, it is none other than Apocalypse himself. So, it is quite obvious that in the upcoming season, we will get to see Apocalypse as the main antagonist of the series.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jake Castorena, supervising producer and head director of X-Men ’97, talked about Season 2, where he was asked about the post-credit scene seen in the first season, about which he was mostly cryptic and said-

“Oh, did something happen with Gambit in the comics? Oh, that’s cool. Everything is meticulously planned.”

It was also confirmed that Season 2 will not hold back in any way or form, and things will most definitely take a rather dark turn. Ross Marquand, the actor who voices Professor X in the series, talked to Collider, where he confirmed that there are multiple deaths in the upcoming season and that it indeed is quite dark. He stated-

” I was amazed Disney greenlit it because it’s so dark. It’s very, very dark. A lot of people die, and so many people don’t talk about it. Just being honest.”

With that being said, it is pretty self-explanatory that this season of X-Men ’97 will turn out to be darker than the first season, and the story will take a direction that will tell us stories that have not been told before. Now, all we need is for Marvel and Disney to give us a release date for X-Men ’97 Season 2 and release the trailer as soon as possible.
