Next Major Windows 10 Update To Skip on Sets Again, Bring Many Edge Improvements

Windows 10

With the release of the latest Windows 10 Insider preview build, Microsoft has confirmed that it won’t be shipping its much-awaited tabbed app feature, called Sets, with the next major Redstone 5 update.

The Sets feature has been in the works for quite some time and was earlier pulled during the development of Redstone 4. At Build 2018 earlier last month, the Redmond giant had stated that Sets will be rolled out with a forthcoming update, which most of us speculated to be Redstone 5. However, Microsoft is not looking to release it in the next update due in fall (September-December) this year.

In an official statement in its blog post, Windows Insider Chief Dona Sarkar said, “starting with this build, we’re taking Sets offline to continue making it great.” She further proceeds to add that valuable feedback of the Insiders will help improve the Sets feature, which will drive changes to “visual design and continue to better integrate Office and Microsoft Edge into Sets to enhance workflow.”

Sets is designed to group similar apps or tasks on your Windows 10 system while further syncing it with the Timeline feature, but Microsoft hasn’t been able to perfect it over the span of the previous year. The company is still not sure when this feature will be ready to ship to the consumers, so no false hopes and promises have been made with this update.

Edge Improvements

Microsoft has rolled out Windows 10 Build 17704 to its Insiders and it comes with a bunch of new features, with improvements to the Microsoft Edge being the most prominent. The Edge browser now incorporates Fluent design, adds a revamped settings page, and many more enhancements.

Right off the bat, Microsoft says that the first change to the Edge browser is its logo. The Edge browser will have a new “BETA” icon that will help users differentiate between the stable and preview builds of the Edge browser. You’ll also notice subtle tweaks to the design of the of the tab bar, where the active tab will now have a depth effect.

The biggest change to Edge browser comes in the form of a revamped Settings page and Microsoft has tried to simplify it quite a bit. The settings will now place major commands front and center while offering refined menu options that make it simpler to navigate the different options.

This build breaks Settings out into subpages by category, with better-organized options and less clutter on each page.

Microsoft has also added a new setting under ‘Advanced Settings’ to assist you in controlling autoplay media on websites. You can choose between three options – Allow, Limit, and Block, where the autoplay will only work when videos are muted. It is a great new addition that pits Edge against other popular browsers, but can all the utilities help this browser gain acceptance anytime soon?
