Next Windows 10 Update Will Likely Be Called ‘April Update’; Could Be Released This Week

Windows 10

After endless speculation over several months, the final name for the upcoming Redstone 4 update for Windows 10 is likely to be ‘April Update’ or April 2018 Update rather than the Spring Creators Update, which does not make sense for half the world. While the initial rumor was that Microsoft may stick to the season-based names, the change has been revealed in its own software.

The change was noticed after the company pushed out build 17134.1 of Windows 10 to ‘Release Preview’, with many users starting to notice that the title on Microsoft Edge’s welcome page now read ‘Welcome to the April Update’. The new name comes after severe criticism about the season-based nomenclature for version updates, which critics argued was confusing for more than half the world.

It’s not yet known whether 17134.1 will be the final release build for the April Update, or whether Microsoft will tweak it a little more before the launch. Microsoft is yet to reveal the name officially, though mention in native software means the name may be approved internally.
