Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has returned this week with its much-awaited Chapter 9. The latest chapter of Gege Akutami’s manga series delves deeper into the massive world of aliens. In the latest chapters, we learn how Maru and Cross were raised by Dura, a powerful Rumelian. At the same time, we learn about the conflict between the Lumerians and the Deskuntians, two powerful alien races. However, this conflict led Maru and Cross to leave their home, and we now finally know their real motives for coming to Earth.
Maru and Cross Are Looking For a Place Where They Can Co-exist
In Chapter 9 of JJK Modulo, we learn that Lumerians and Deskunta have been at war with each other for several years. Apart from these two races, there’s also the Karyan, some sort of monsters who, for some reason, only listen to Lumerians. Then, there’s Mul, a rare and powerful metal that Deskunta has been extracting since the very beginning.
Daura tries very hard to unite these two races, but things take a dark turn when a Karyan beast kills the daughter of Deskunta’s chief. This means war, but the two tribes decide to host a duel to settle the matter. It turns out, Daura, the undefeated warrior of his tribe, has to go against Dabra, a Deskunta. Daura and Dabra were friends, but Dabra is forced to fight to save his sister, who is being held hostage by Deskunta.
Before the duel, Daura reveals that this war between the two races isn’t religious. Instead, it’s because of Deskunta’s greed to extract the Mul metal for their personal gains. However, he couldn’t avoid the fight for very long, and the duel ended with his defeat and death.
After seeing their mentor die, Maru and Cross come across a vast quantity of Mul metal that was hidden by Daura for the good of his people. At the same time, Dabra also arrives and confirms that he wants to fulfill the last wish of his friend and help the Lumerian race survive. Then, Cross and Maru decide to leave their planet and look for a new home. In this new home, they wish to live without conflict and actually co-exist with everyone. In a way, they wish to live as Daura wanted for every Lumerian. That is why they arrived on Earth.
However, while Maru hopes for a better future and wants to trust humans, Cross looks at things differently. He believes that, like Deskunta, humans would one day turn against them. And he wants to create a future where he won’t lose the people he loves while fighting another race. That is why he wants humans to escalate a war so they can wipe out the entire human race. That way, they’ll be able to lead a life without conflict.
