Squid Game 2 is just as gritty, dark, and unpredictable as the first season which is kinda hard to accomplish with modern shows. We see that Gi-Hun has made his way back into the game to find a way to put a stop to the Squid Game. However, in episode 3 ending, we got introduced to a new player whose tag says “oo1” but mind you, he is not a regular player. So, who is player 001 in Squid Game 2? Let’s find out!
Player 001 Is Hwang In-ho “The Frontman” in Squid Game 2
In Squid Game 2 episode 3, it was revealed that Player 001 is none other than Hwang In-ho, or The Frontman of the Squid Game. He has joined the game as a player and it seems as if he has done it so that he could sabotage Gi-hun’s plans to change the minds of all the players to vote to end the game. We also see that Player 001 is continuously trying to convince Gi-hun that he should let the Squid Game go on.
Why Did Player 001 or Hwang In-Ho Join the Squid Game?
While it was revealed that Player 001 is The Frontman from Squid Game season 1, this season also presents to us his backstory and why he joined the Squid Game. It was already revealed that Hwang In-Ho is the brother of Hwang Jun-Ho, the cop who infiltrated the Squid Game workers last season. Now, initial episodes of Squid Game 2 have revealed that In-Ho is the step-brother of Jun-Ho and he joined the game after losing his wife to liver cirrhosis while she was pregnant. In-Ho took money from one of its lenders and was fired from his job for taking bribes. He joined Squid Game to earn money for his wife’s liver transplant. However, his wife has already died.
