What Is Project Odessa in Gen V Season 2?

In Short
  • Project Odessa is something very similar to Compound V, and Marie is the only survivor of the experiment.
  • Emma found out about it when she broke into the secret vault in the Godolkin Archives.
  • It appears that Project Odessa was meant to create the most powerful supe out there, but we can't say anything for sure just yet.

Gen V Season 2 isn’t holding anything back, and it’s diving deeper into the sinister underbelly of Vought and its experiments. One of the biggest new mysteries is Project Odessa, a shadowy operation that looks like it’s set to play a major role in this season. With fans already buzzing about what it could mean, let’s break down everything we know about Project Odessa and why it could be the key to connecting Gen V Season 2 more closely with The Boys.

Project Odessa is a secret Vought project revealed in Gen V Season 2, and it appears to be tied directly to Thomas Godolkin, the founder of Godolkin University. Project Odessa seems like something Vought has been working on to further enhance their control over the world. When Starlight met Marie, she told her that Project Odessa is the reason why Thomas Godolkin started Godolkin University.

Historically, the word “Odessa” has been tied to covert escape routes and secret organizations. Most notably, post-WWII operations where high-ranking officials vanished into new lives under new identities, and the show is clearly tapping into that kind of conspiracy energy. With Emma, Jordan, and Marie now looking for what Project Odessa is, things have gotten rather interesting because it has come to light that Odessa is not exactly a thing; it’s a who.

With the help of Polarity, Emma was able to get into the archives containing information on Tomas Godolkin. There, in a secret vault, they found out that Thomas Godolkin was a nazi and also discovered files on Project Odessa. The file contained pictures of babies who died, and it became pretty obvious that Vought was experimenting on infants in hopes of achieving something. However, the twist here is that the files contained a picture of Marie when she was a kid, pointing out that Marie Moreau is Project Odessa in Gen V Season 2.

Now, since in the trailers, we have already heard that Marie is the most powerful supe in the world, it looks like Project Odessa was created with an aim very similar to Compound V. However, it looks like the serum is much stronger than Compound V, and since no one was able to handle it except for Marie but more information will come along as the show proceeds.

How Gen V’s Project Odessa Tie Into The Boys?

Project Odessa isn’t just a Gen V subplot; it feels like a setup for something much larger for The Boys Season 5. Since Marie is the only survivor of Project Odessa, according to Gen V Season 2, it could mean that she has a much larger role than we can anticipate. We have already seen Marie working in favour of Starlight, and now that she herself is Project Odessa, Marie could prove to be vital in the fight against Homelander in The Boys Season 5.

We already know that Gen V Season 2 is going to be deeply tied into the upcoming season of The Boys, so it won’t surprise me if by the end of Season 2, we get to see a full-blown merger between the parent show and the spinoff.

Is Project Odessa Mentioned in The Boys Comics?

While Project Odessa is going to be quite substantial in the final season of The Boys, as well as in Gen V Season 2, there is no mention of Project Odessa in The Boys Comics. This has been created solely for the show, which also tells us how well the basic story of The Boys has been crafted, where we know the ultimate conclusion, but are unsure of how it will reach there.

So, with that being said, let’s see what comes out of Marie suddenly becoming the center of everyone who knows’ attention. If you guys have any ideas on how this could pan out, do let us know in the comments before the next episode drops, and maybe, you might just hit the bullseye.
