Following the brutalities of the Shibuya Arc, the manga jumps straight into the first workings of the Culling Game. Created and controlled by Kenjaku, the game takes place in 10 colonies across Japan that are connected to each other through boundary-binding barriers. While the game covers most of Japan, it doesn’t include Hokkaido due to its sacred status.

The game is basically a ritual, which, according to Kenjaku, will take humanity to the next stage. It will transform humanity by merging them with Master Tengen, turning them into a powerful, cursed entity. Whenever someone, particularly a cursed user, enters a colony, they can’t leave unless a special rule grants them permission.

It’s a cruel game that forces humans to participate in the games within nineteen days of their awakening. If they fail to do so, they will have to face their dark fates. The manga reveals that the game has been designed to prepare the awakened beings for the grand merger with Master Tengen. Participants earn points for each kill. The one to earn 100 points can make or alter any rule with Kenjaku’s approval.

What Are the Rules of the JJK Culling Game?

Culling Game involves strict, unbreakable rules that players must follow to avoid elimination. Below, we have mentioned all of those for you to look at:

  1. If anyone awakens their cursed energy, they are bound to announce their participation within 19 days.
  2. Those who fail to follow the above rule must face the consequences. Their cursed energies are removed, affecting their brain, and this leads to their deaths.
  3. Non-players already in the colonies at the start will be provided with a chance to leave safely. However, those who fail to do it will be considered players once the time period ends.
  4. One must kill the other players to earn points and increase their survival chance.
  5. The game master decides the worth/points for each player. For instance, the non-sorcerers earn one point on each kill, while the sorcerers and the cursed spirits get five points each.
  6. When a player makes it to 100 points, they can get a chance to add a new rule.
  7. The game master can allow players to add new rules only if they don’t have a long-lasting impact on the game.
  8. The player is given a time limit of 19 days to increase their points, and if they do not succeed in this, they face elimination.

The ones mentioned above are the original rules, and now we talk about the ones added by the players after they reached 100 points in the game.

  1. Hjimo Kashimo added: Players can access their opponents’ personal information, such as their names, the place they belong to, and more, and can transfer points to each other.
  2. Megumi Fushiguro added that players can pass their torch to a subordinate and can exit the colonies after earning 100 points.
  3. The rule by Yorozu permits players to enter and exit any colony border at will.
  4. Kenjaku’s rule states that no player may enter the premises of the Culling Game on November 18, 2018, at 9:09 PM. The second rule states that every player can die except Megumi Fushiguro, Suguru Geto, and Shiori Himi.

Is Kenjaku the Game Master of Culling Game?

While the majority of the fans believe that Kenjaku is the game master, Master Tenjen in the manga reveals something else. He states that to make the ritual a success, Kenjaku has undertaken several Binding vows, and one of them takes the opportunity of being the master of the games. He is one of the most cunning villains in anime history, so he very well knows how to reach the ultimate goal, no matter what it takes. He knew that if he became the game master, everything would stop with his death. So, he decided to give up on the ‘game master’ title and focus on the bigger picture instead.

Kenjaku designed the Culling Game and chose to be the puppet master rather than the game master. He designed the game and its rules, then passed on responsibility for executing everything. For instance, he unleashed Kogane to become the medium between the game and the players.

We have encountered several curses in Jujutsu Kaisen, but rarely have they matched the level of Kenjaku. Manga fans are already familiar with the master of manipulation, and soon, the anime fans will also realize that he is one of the most clever anime villains to date.
