Heimerdinger, the longest-living scientist in Piltover, has been one of the fan-favorite characters in the Arcane animated series. In the first act of Season 2, we were happy to see the genius Yordle tag along with Ekko and Jayce to the Hex Gate basement, but together they got caught inside the Arcane anomaly. While we were worried about his whereabouts, Arcane Season 2 Act 3 finally answered the questions about Heimerdinger’s status in Arcane. So, what really happened to Heimerdinger? Is he dead or alive? Did Heimerdinger Die in Arcane Season 2?
After getting caught inside the Arcane anomaly, Heimerdinger and Ekko were sent to an alternate timeline with no Hextech. This was revealed in Arcane Season 2 Episode 7, titled ‘Pretend Like It’s the First Time.’
This episode was full of surprises as it depicted the timeline where Ekko and Powder’s Timebomb ship became canon and Ekko developed the Z-Drive. Unlike Ekko, Heimerdinger confirmed to have spent a near-eternity in this world, patiently waiting for Ekko’s arrival.
Since there was no Hextech in this parallel dimension, it meant that there was no anomaly here that they could utilize to get back home. However, remembering the accident in Jayce’s room in Season 1, Ekko discoverd the remnant Hex Stones and put them together to recreate the anomaly and take them both back to their original timeline. However, this process needed an unexpected sacrifice.
Heimerdinger Gave His Life to Get Ekko Back Home
These genius minds were able to recreate the Hextech machine to replicate the anomaly. However, the process needed one person to stay back to switch on the final gears and connect the final wire to bring the machine online. Although Heimerdinger stepped inside the device to act like he was going home with Ekko, he had already made up his mind to make the necessary sacrifice.
Hence, at the last moment, he ran out of the Hextech machine to complete the final steps once the anomaly began, and doing so resulted in Heimerdinger’s unfortunate death in the Arcane TV series.
Yes, Heimerdinger vanished from existence due to the Arcane’s power, where the scene was very similar to Sky’s final moments in the first season. Sky was seen in a spiritual form as she became one with the Arcane.

So, could our beloved scientist be alive in this form inside the Arcane? The chances are slim as Viktor and Jayce put an end to Hextech in the ending of Arcane Season 2. But there is always a chance for Heimerdinger to return as he is still a champion in the game.
Heimerdinger has always committed and dedicated his life to science and magic in the TV show. He was forced to retire from the council by his student but Ekko turned to him for support.
