In keeping with the trend OnePlus started following the launch of the OnePlus 3T, the company has once again launched an iterative upgrade for its flagship OnePlus 6 which was launched earlier this year in May. Much like all other T-series releases from the company, the new OnePlus 6T brings some minor upgrades over its predecessor and we’re here to talk about just that.
Everything New in the OnePlus 6T
Bigger Screen, Smaller Notch
The first thing that you’ll notice about the OnePlus 6T is its display. The device packs in a bigger 6.41-inch display with a smaller waterdrop-style notch which houses the front facing camera and sensors. The display resolution, however, remains the same and it’s still a 1080p display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio.
In-Display Fingerprint Scanner
Another striking new feature about the OnePlus 6T is that it packs in an in-display fingerprint scanner. OnePlus has made use of a 4th-gen in-display fingerprint scanner from Synaptics and thanks to the company’s optimizations, it’s the fastest in-display fingerprint scanner I’ve used till date.
Larger Battery
OnePlus has also increased the battery capacity of the OnePlus 6T from its predecessor and it now packs in a respectable 3,700mAh battery. Since the OnePlus 6 delivered great battery life to begin with, you can expect even better battery life from the OnePlus 6T thanks to the bigger battery pack.
Smart Boost
OnePlus has also included a unique feature on the OnePlus 6T which the company claims will improve app launch times by up to 20 percent. The feature, called Smart Boost, will make use of the system RAM to launch frequently used apps, instead of launching them from the ROM. At launch, the feature will only work with a handful of games, but the company has promised to release timely updates with support for more apps in the future.
Nightscape
Much like all other recently launched device, the new OnePlus 6T also features a dedicated Night Mode feature to click better images in low light. The new feature, called Nightscape, will therefore result in better low light shots, with a decent amount of detail, great color reproduction and little to no noise.
Well, that rounds up everything that’s new on the OnePlus 6T when compared to its predecessor, the OnePlus 6. Other than these changes, both the devices are pretty much the same and will largely offer similar performance. The newer device might feel a little bit snappier, but the difference won’t be as significant as you’d expect from a complete refresh.
