One Piece: Shamrock’s Reveal Makes This Bonney Theory Impossible to Ignore

Eiichiro Oda kicked off 2025 with a surprise reveal in the One Piece manga, introducing the fans to Shanks’ much-awaited twin brother, Figarland Shamrock. Due to this, many buried fan theories are getting resurrected. Now that it is (basically, officially) confirmed that Shanks did not meet the Five Elders, Shamrock’s existence in the story makes this Jewelry Bonney theory more compelling and a lot harder to ignore. Find out how Shamrock’s reveal is tied to Bonney below.

Spoilers Warning: This post includes spoilers about Shamrock and Bonney’s characters in One Piece. So, proceed with caution.

Bonney’s Genderbend Design Got Fans Talking

This theory came into existence when the creator drew the gender-swapped versions of the Worst Generation pirates in SBS Volume 72 a few years ago. All the Worst Generation pirates, except the Straw Hats, were gender-swapped, thanks to a long-time request by the fans. However, the gender-swapped design that caught everyone’s eye was Bonney.

If you look closely, you can see a hint of Shanks’ design in Bonney’s hair and piercing. This made everyone wonder why Oda opted for this design when it had such an uncanny resemblance to Shanks.

Before we proceed further, you need to know about the situation around Bonney’s birth. In case you weren’t aware, Bonney’s mother, Ginny, was abducted by an unknown Celestial Dragon. She was forced to be with a Celestial Dragon, which led to Bonney’s birth. However, Ginny was thrown out of the Holy Land after she contracted a disease. She had passed, with Bonney in her arms, when Kuma reached her.

So, Kuma stepped up to raise Ginny as his daughter, but the details regarding Bonney’s biological father were never known. Therefore, fans began to take Bonney’s gender-swapped design as a clue to predict her father in the story.

Of course, Shanks couldn’t have committed such a vile act and he is no celestial dragon as well. At that time, we weren’t aware of Shamrock’s existence, so fans believed it could have been Figarland Garling instead. However, things didn’t add up with the old man. However, now that Shamrock has been introduced as a world noble and Garling’s son in One Piece Chapter 1137, all the pieces seem to have started falling into place.

As we have previously seen from Oda, he must have kept the details about the Celestial Dragon who abducted Ginny obscured to introduce Shamrock later in the story. Shamrock is a major antagonist of the ongoing Elbaf arc, and that must be a reason why the creator has Kuma and Bonney tag along with the Straw Hats to the home of the Giants. It could be a good way to shine light on their story in this arc.

So, Shamrock might be the mysterious World Noble who Ginny was forced to marry in the past and bear a child.

One could argue that this theory does not make any sense. But we all know that Oda does not draw his characters without any reason. In a recent SBS, Oda shared the details of Franky’s father, which matched perfectly with Queen of the Beast Pirates. Oda has always left hints this way for his fans to pick up and connect the dots.

So, what I’m trying to say is that it is highly likely that Shamrock might be revealed to be Bonney’s biological father as the story progresses in the Elbaf arc. Let’s patiently wait and watch if this long-running theory becomes a reality.

In the meantime, let us know your thoughts on this theory about Bonney’s biological father that is getting traction among One Piece fans.
