The legend of Davy Jones remained a myth among pirates and fans alike for decades until Oda revealed that Davy Jones is a real character in the story. Rocks D. Xebec, whose true name is Davy D. Xebec, disclosed the truth about the existence of descendants of Davy Jones living in God Valley in the previous chapter. The Davy clan members remained hidden until Garling discovered them and brought the manhunting native hunting competition to this island. Now, in the latest chapter, Oda further teases a connection between the Davy Clan members and the renowned Buccaneers race.
The Connection Between Buccaneers and the Davy Clan
The Buccaneers are one of the races on the brink of extinction in One Piece. They must have been erased from the annals of history, as they were closely associated with the legend of Nika and committed a great sin against the World Government, according to St. Saturn. Bartholomew Kuma was considered to be the sole remaining member of the Buccaneers. While Kuma’s status remains unclear at the moment, there is still hope for the Buccaneers as Oda hints at the Davy clan members being related to the Buccaneers.
In the opening page of One Piece chapter 1160, the Celestial Dragon was enraged about the Davy clan members on stage. Though they were shouting that the Davy lineage must be wiped out from the face of earth, one of the Celestial Dragon questioned whether the Davy Clan members hail from the Buccaneers race.
Twelve Davy clan members were kept as slaves to be hunted by the World Government, and we are not sure if all the Davy clan members are confirmed to be Buccaneers. However, we can go with the idea that several members of the Davy family are Buccaneers, and that would also explain the reason behind Blackbeard’s appearance.
In case you aren’t aware, the Buccaneers are like a race between the sizes of humans and giants. One look at Kuma and you can tell how the Buccaneers are different from the majority of normal humans. Fans have always wondered why Blackbeard has a large body similar to that of a buccaneer. Now, the clue that there could be Buccaneers among the Davy clan members seems very possible to happen in the future.
Davy D. Xebec also had a similar build to that of Blackbeard, and the reason could have been that he had Buccaneer genes. This genetic trait may have been carried on to his Blackbeard, and that would explain why he has such a large body.
Both the Davy clan and the Buccaneers are despised by the World Government, and they are on the verge of extinction. However, Oda must be planning a big reveal by connecting the near-extinct races that would change our perception of this clan and race.
