One Piece Anime Goes On a Shockingly Long Hiatus

In Short
  • The One Piece anime is officially going on a lengthy hiatus and will return next year in April 2025.
  • The production staff has opted for the long break to improve the quality of the Egghead arc anime adaptation.
  • In the meantime, a remastered version of Fishman Island arc will be aired for fans every weekend.

After the Wano Country arc adaptation, the One Piece anime soared to new heights and had been busy breaking records with its stellar Egghead arc adaptation. The Egghead arc instantly became a fan favorite with its incredible animation and flawless fight sequences, delivering a worthy kick-off to the final saga of One Piece. However, the anime’s production staff has made a shocking and gut-wrenching announcement for fans today. Yes, the title tells the truth, the One Piece anime will be going on a lengthy hiatus. Let’s find out why.

The editor-in-chief of One Piece came forth today to announce that the One Piece anime will go on a prolonged break until April 2025. The Egghead Island arc adaptation in the anime will now continue after over 6 months.

After seeing Koby’s Honesty Impact, the fans were on a high today. However, their smiles have been turned upside down. The reason, you ask? The production team mentions that they decided to put the Egghead arc on hold to ‘achieve even higher quality’ for the fans. Wait, that wasn’t their best quality? Huh? I’m appalled (sarcastically, of course).

We are well aware of Toei Animation’s supreme quality in the Egghead arc, even though it’s a weekly anime. Now, with the long break, they will be able to elevate the animation quality even further. You can view the official announcement here:

Technically, if you think about it, the anime and manga had been inching closer to each other. So, if you see this announcement in a positive light, this break will also extend the gap between the One Piece anime and manga, which will benefit fans in the long run. Well, we won’t have to sit through sleep-inducing fillers, like Naruto Shippuden.

In the meantime, the studio has also announced a new special edited version of the Fishman Island arc to air during the break weeks. This newly remastered edition will feature revamped visuals with better pacing and other changes to entertain the fans.

Therefore, the One Piece anime will officially enter its lengthy break period right after the One Piece Fan Letter Special episode, which is scheduled to be released on October 20, 2024.

Following that, the specially edited version of the Fishman Island arc of One Piece will start airing on October 27, 2024. While this is disheartening for One Piece fans, it’s all for the better for our favorite anime. As for fans who can’t wait to learn what happens next, they can instantly jump ship to the manga ship and catch up with the story. The manga has already kicked off the Elbaf arc, and we are seeing the OG Straw Hats in their true essence, complete with their tomfoolery.

That said, what do you think about the upcoming break of the One Piece anime? Let us know in the comments below.
