Do NPCs Carry Weapons in GTA 6? Answered

GTA 6 looks set to feature the most diverse NPCs in the series yet, with everything from body types and heights to unique physical animations adding more life to its world. But that raises an interesting question: will NPCs also carry their own weapons? Rockstar is clearly putting a lot of effort into making GTA 6’s Leonida map feel as alive and unpredictable as possible, and armed NPCs could make the world feel more dangerous. So, here’s everything we know about this feature.

Will NPCs Carry Weapons in GTA 6?

Yes, NPCs will carry weapons in GTA 6, and they will not hesitate to use them on Jason and Lucia if the situation calls for it. However, not every NPC will carry a weapon, and most will likely flee the scene if our protagonists cause a ruckus with their own set of weapons in GTA 6.

NPC interaction has evolved from Red Dead Redemption 2, meaning you’ll still have the option to “Greet” or “Taunt” them in GTA 6, which will lead to a confrontation if you pick the latter. But Rockstar has confirmed that NPCs may choose to attack Jason or Lucia with their weapons even if they don’t provoke or taunt them, because Leonida is just that unpredictable.

Furthermore, if you eavesdrop on or follow a stranger in GTA 6, they will react to your actions and confront you, which may or may not escalate into a full-blown shootout. We’ve also seen multiple store owners shoot at Jason and Lucia with shotguns and other weapons in the GTA 6 Extended Look on Netflix, so some robberies won’t be simple.

One of the first signs of NPCs carrying weapons appeared in GTA 6’s debut trailer, which showed a grandma in a pink outfit wielding a hammer. She later appeared in the Extended Look, where Jason and Lucia confronted her.

Furthermore, Rockstar’s multiple GTA 6 screenshots show different locations with various NPCs carrying weapons, from rednecks to drug dealers. So, be careful when doing certain activities in GTA 6 in Leonida, as one wrong move could spook an NPC and turn a peaceful outing into a messy situation.

Can NPCs Perform Robberies in GTA 6?

Rockstar has confirmed via early GTA 6 previews that NPCs can actually perform unscripted robberies with weapons in the open world. Jason and Lucia can also encounter other criminals carrying out robberies while exploring Leonida.

In one instance, a woman tried to rob a convenience store just as Jason was about to do the same, prompting the store owner to react organically to the unfolding chaos. So, you can either stop their crimes to maintain your Criminal Profile in GTA 6 or take all the loot for yourself.

NPCs will react to Jason and Lucia carrying concealed weapons, with most fleeing in fear while others may try to disarm them, as seen in the GTA 6 Extended Look. Furthermore, Jason and Lucia can store weapons inside car trunks in GTA 6 for more convenient robberies, which could also mean that other NPCs might do the same.

Rockstar has gone to extreme lengths to make sure every player has a unique experience while exploring the State of Leonida. What you experience with NPCs will vary from, let’s say, your friend’s GTA 6 playthrough. That said, how do you plan to deal with NPCs carrying guns in GTA 6?
